Quick info
About The Duke's Umbrella
The Duke's Umbrella is a bar and grill in Glasgow on Argyle St, where library-style decor and candlelit tables set the room. The kitchen gives pub food a twist, and a dedicated vegan and veggie menu with Fish and Chips and Vegan Sausage and Mash gives meat-free diners mains of their own. Steak and haggis pie sits among the meat dishes. The bar pours real ale, wines and cocktails, and bottled beers sit alongside a short draught list. The doors are open daily, and live music plays in the evening.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the haggis lasagna, which several name as the standout, with one calling it one of the best meals they have had. Close behind are a scotch egg, a steak and haggis pie, and a chicken schnitzel risotto. Vegetarian and vegan diners praise the "Fish" and Chips and the Vegan Sausage and Mash, with generous portions, and one reviewer describes a kids meal that went down well. Another reviewer says the kitchen had closed late in the evening, yet a staff member arranged a deep fried mars bar. Live music and candlelit tables come up repeatedly as part of the atmosphere, and the staff are called kind, welcoming and friendly. The recurring complaints are about drinks and volume. One reviewer found the live music so loud that conversation at the table was nearly impossible, and two note the lack of Scottish beer on tap, though a bottled IPA was enjoyed. One also mentions a wait on a fully booked Saturday night and a worn exterior sign that is hard to read. One couple celebrating an engagement was given complimentary sparkling wine.

“To be transparent, we were encouraged to write a review, but I wouldn’t have left one (especially one this positive!) if it wasn’t genuinely how I felt. We found this place on TripAdvisor as visitors from Cardiff, where it had overwhelmingly positive reviews. Well, those reviews are definitely well deserved! It’s a gorgeous place with a lovely atmosphere and decor, and we were pleasantly surprised by the live music, which really added to the experience. There was a little wait given how busy it was (Saturday night and fully booked, so completely expected), but the service we received was exceptional. The staff really made sure we were looked after despite how busy they were, which we really appreciated. I was very torn over what to order but eventually went for the Haggis Lasagna - and I can confidently say it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had! So much flavour and beautifully presented. I also had a few cocktails, which were all genuinely cocktail-bar quality. Overall, we had such a lovely evening and would absolutely come back if we’re ever in the area again. Definitely worth a visit!”

“We came here as they had a veggie/vegan menu but weren't expecting to be blown away... Both the 'Fish' and Chips and Vegan Sausage and Mash were superb, and portion sizes were generous, the best vegan pub grub in Glasgow. Shout out to Cayden and Cristina who looked after us, excellent service!”

“Came across this lovely place while searching for somewhere to eat during our stay in Glasgow. I must say it was a great discovery and I’m not afraid of losing my Italian citizenship when I say that the haggis lasagna really has something to it that made me enjoy every single bite! we ordered two starters and two mains and were pleasantly impressed by the taste and the size of the portions - they were very satisfying, but didn’t stop us from getting a dessert as well. Just in case you needed a few more reasons to dine at the Duke’s Umbrella, the staff is kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere is as cozy as you would expect from a restaurant in the centre of Glasgow. Sadly, we’ll have to come back someday, hopefully soon.”

“We hunted high & low to find a deep fried mars bar in Glasgow & were successful here! It was late in the evening but Paula welcomed us in & said although the kitchen was shut, she would get it organised for us! Yummo!!!!! 😍 A cosy place with live music, made it a great end to our evening in Glasgow! 🥰”
