About The Cafe
The Cafe is a cafe and breakfast restaurant in Exeter, found at 76 Fore St. It sells local art on site, so a meal or a drink comes with original work from the area to look at. The menu includes a cream tea, served with a scone, jam and cream. Service runs on a pay-as-you-leave basis, so guests settle up on their way out instead of ordering and paying at the till. Dogs are welcome, so guests can bring their own along.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply on service. Praise centers on a cream tea with an excellent scone, jam and cream, plus a lovely welcome for tired cyclists and local art on sale. Others describe staff chatting while customers waited at the door, a grumpy server, and weak coffee likened to hot milk. One full English arrived without beans or hashbrowns, and the garden was called nice.

“Food wasn’t the best, full English for £15, can of coke for £3.65. No beans, one sausage, no hashbrowns. Garden was nice but wouldn’t eat here again.”

“Very poor customer service, the staff were stood talking and gossiping instead of serving customers who were stood at the door waiting for service. When I was eventually acknowleged, the staff member rudely told me that you pay as you leave instead of paying and ordering at the till. I think it would be more efficient and clear for them to display signage of this - or even better - the staff actually talk to customers when they come in! Coffee was not particularly nice and the cake was just flavourless and wet. Would not go back mainly due to the poor service we recieved.”

“Very grumpy woman who served us, moaned about everything”

“Super lovely cafe. Friendly professional staff. Had a cream tea - excellent scone with lashings of jam and cream. They also sell local art at reasonable prices.”
- Neil Tampkins
“Lovely welcome this morning for a couple of tired cyclists. Been visiting here for years and highly recommended.”
