About JJ's
On South St in Emsworth, JJ's is a cocktail bar with seating spread across an upstairs, a downstairs, and an outdoor terrace, including a cinema-style seating area. The menu runs to 15 dishes, with Halloumi Fries served alongside the cocktail list, and a gluten-free menu is available, with fish and chips cooked in a separate fryer. Eton mess rounds out the dessert options. A quiz night runs as part of the regular calendar, and dogs are welcome throughout. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the fish and chips as the standout, with several noting it works well for gluten-free diets, including one coeliac who felt safe eating it thanks to a separate fryer and clued-up cross-contamination handling. Close behind, the bottomless brunch draws praise for its unlimited cocktails and generous shared platter, and the halloumi fries and vegetable soup also get singled out by diners popping in just for tea. The decor and "tardis-like" interior, with cinema-style seating and greenery, come up again and again as a surprise given the modest exterior, alongside consistently friendly, helpful staff and a wedding party that called the service efficient and the food exquisite. A couple of reviewers temper this, noting the gluten-free menu is limited with smaller chip portions, and one regular visitor says the food is "good but nothing great" with few vegetarian options. Several reviewers mention booking ahead themselves, especially for weekend dinner sittings, while others were still squeezed in without a reservation and left satisfied with a well-presented Sunday roast sharing platter.

“I visited JJs in Emsworth for gluten‑free fish and chips and had a really good experience. The venue itself is welcoming, clean and relaxed, and the staff were attentive, polite and genuinely friendly throughout our visit. We went in as a group and everyone was happy with their meals, which says a lot.The gluten‑free menu isn’t huge, and the portion of chips was on the smaller side, but the fish was excellent — moist, flaky, and the batter was light, crisp and properly gluten‑free without feeling heavy or oily.It was a very quiet evening with not many other bookings, which actually made it even nicer. “Had a lovely work meal out here. Lots of laughter, attentive staff, great food, and the eclectic abundance of decor, from Grecian pillars, plants, shoes, toy dinosaurs and much more, was the icing on the cake to complete a very nice meal out.”
