Customer Review Summary

The Sunday roast draws the most praise, especially the rump served pink with roast potatoes, greens and a bone marrow gravy one diner calls rich with a hint of mustard. Cauliflower cheese and macaroni cheese sides are called a masterpiece. Close behind is the bone marrow starter, with pork belly, scallops and a sticky toffee sundae also named. Most describe lovely, friendly staff who keep water topped up. The complaints are specific, though. One diner waited past their booked time for a table, then a long stretch for a fillet steak with no check-in, and left no service charge. Another says a porterhouse ordered medium rare arrived medium to well done. The server admitted the error and offered a replacement, but they had already started eating. One felt the anniversary set menu was poor value for the bill, while another called the set menu great value. One felt rushed to order. Another diner recalls a waiter bringing extra toast for the lard starter, and the manager asking after payment whether everything had been satisfactory.

“Lovely afternoon spent here for a late lunch. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar which was a nice chilled way to start. There's an excellent selection of drinks, non-alcohol included. We then had the roast, would be rude not to on a Sunday. Everything was top-notch, the beef, the Wellington, all the sides and gravy. All the staff were super friendly, shout out to Scotty, chatty, knows his stuff and very professional. Thanks Hawksmoor for making the occasion special!”

“Visited Hawksmoor Edinburgh with a friend for dinner. We had a 7:30 pm reservation and arrived about five minutes early. We were initially offered seats by the bar and were shown to our table at around 7:37 pm. Our order was taken roughly ten minutes later. We decided to try the Hawksmoor 20th Anniversary Special Menu, priced at £75 per person, along with two of their drinks of the day. Our final bill came to around £196 for two. The food was well presented and the quality was certainly good, but personally I struggled to see the value for the price. For nearly £200 for two people, I was expecting something considerably more memorable in terms of both the food and the overall experience. The restaurant was also very busy and quite crowded, which is perhaps understandable on a weekend evening. Overall, a decent dining experience, but unfortunately nothing particularly special for me that would justify the premium price or make me eager to return. 4/5 feels fair based on my experience.”

“Not our first time eating here and every time it’s just FAB! The food is always delicious and the service is so so good. The steaks are all amazing, the sticky toffee sundae is delicious and the scallops were also amazing. The staff are so lovely and they were so great to me for my birthday dinner. Can’t wait to eat here again. Shoutout to George and Emily 🩷”

“Had an amazing dinner at Hawksmoor! Randomly stumbled upon this gem for a great dinner. The restaurant itself is beautiful with very high ceilings. The service was very friendly and helpful as well. We had grilled chicken, cesar salad, pork belly and bone marrow. Everything was very tasty and prepared perfectly, especially the bone marrow was awesome, never had such thick bones before! All in all we really enjoyed this restaurant and would definitely highly recommend it to anyone whos visiting Edinburgh!”

“My wife and I had a pleasant sojourn into the town today for a spot of Sunday dinner. Having had a good look at the menus we opted for the Sunday lunch. The à la cart and their 20th anniversary menu looked super but we opted for the roast beef with yorkies and trimmings. Hawksmoor is a pleasant environment which is spacious and not overly noisy. We were a little early but were taken to our seats straight away, which was nice and were given the options available and if we wanted to order a drink. The staff were lovely and pleasant and this is where I’m at a crossroads with my score….although I couldn’t fault the service and the staff were so nice but I felt really rushed when it came to ordering. I sooner had the menus been put down than our server was at us to see if we were ready to order. This went on a couple of times to the point where I said can you please give us 5 minutes. That is the only teeny downside to our score overall on stars. Word of advice to Hawksmoor….. please don’t rush into ordering please. That aside the meal was simply beautiful. We both had the rump, which was very pink and tasted lovely. Spuds and greens were nice and the girlies were a must. The bone marrow gravy was an excellent flavour and you must get the stuffing to go on the side. The plate did look a little empty to start with but once you moved things around to get started you realise you’ve got a healthy portion indeed. We did squeeze in a sweet, j just the sorbet which was a nice palate cleanser and my wife had the pavlova which went down well. Overall, we will go back, probably for evening meal on the à la cart menu. Well done Hawksmoor”
