About The Mussel and Steak Bar
The Mussel and Steak Bar is a seafood and steak restaurant in Edinburgh at 110 W Bow, open since 2005. Every table is seated with complimentary oysters on the half shell as a welcome. Mussels come by the kilo pot, either in white wine, shallots and cream or in a whisky version, with bread alongside to soak up the broth. On the steak side, the menu lists ribeye and fillet, plus a Mussel & Steak Surf & Turf that pairs the two halves of the name. Haggis Wellington with whisky sauce gives a Scottish option for those who want something other than seafood or beef. The restaurant holds membership of the Scotch Beef Club, which means the Scotch beef it serves has been inspected against criteria for quality, provenance, handling and preparation. The drinks list includes an Oyster Bloody Mary Shot and non-alcoholic choices such as a White Peach Sour mocktail.

Customer Review Summary
Mussels are the main draw, with diners praising the white wine and cream version in a kilo pot and the whisky mussels, often mopped up with fresh bread and the broth. Close behind, reviewers single out the Cullen skink, the king scallops, and the oysters, including an Oyster Bloody Mary Shot that won over skeptics. The fillet and the haggis Wellington also earn praise, along with a non alcoholic White Peach Sour that staff made fizzy on request. Steak draws mixed reactions: one reviewer found the ribeye slightly small though flavorful, another called it nothing special, and one found the scallops a little bland until salt was added. One reviewer also notes a 10% service charge and a busy, rushed feel from the steady tourist crowd. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, including toward a solo diner. Many reviewers close on the same detail: complimentary oysters brought to the table when they sat down.

“We had an amazing time here! The food was fantastic, and came with complimentary oysters upon sitting! I'd ordered the White Peach Sour mocktail but asked if it could be made fizzy and they kindly accommodated my request! We'd ordered the kilo pot of mussels in white wine, shallots and cream and it was everything we were looking for for our must- have mussels dish in Edinburgh 😍 The whole experience was lovely, especially the friendliness of the staff! I'd definitely come again!”

“Love that they had non alcoholic beverages that still tasted artfully crafted! The Cullen Skink was a well balanced chowder, and the king scallops beautifully prepared - clean and cooked just right. They were a little bland for my taste, but just added some salt to bring out more flavor. Keep in mind there’s a service charge of 10%.”

“If you're looking for a memorable meal in Edinburgh, Mussel & Steak Bar delivers on all fronts. The oysters were impressively large, exceptionally fresh, and disappeared from the plate far too quickly. The drinks arrived perfectly chilled and poured with the kind of precision that inspires confidence before the first sip. A special mention goes to our server, Ciarán, who was outstanding throughout the evening. He was knowledgeable, attentive, genuinely kind, and guided us through the menu with ease. His service struck the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness, making us feel well looked after without ever feeling rushed. The ribeye steak was slightly smaller than expected, but what it lacked in size it more than made up for in flavor. It was cooked exactly as ordered and was absolutely delicious. The fillet was equally impressive, generously sized, beautifully prepared, and tender enough to make a steak lover smile. The mussels were excellent as well, packed with flavor and a must order for anyone visiting a restaurant with “mussel” in its name. And then there was the Oyster Bloody Mary Shot. It was approached with a healthy amount of enthusiasm. But they like it it and all left as believers. They claim it was surprisingly delicious and one of the most memorable parts of the meal. Overall, Mussel & Steak Bar combines excellent food, outstanding service, and a welcoming atmosphere. The only difficult decision you'll face is whether to order another round of oysters—or admit that your family was right about the Bloody Mary shot.”

“We had the white wine and the whisky mussels , and both were absolutely delicious. The food was outstanding from start to finish, and the bread was particularly memorable—fresh, flavorful, and impossible to stop eating with the mussel broth. As a lovely gesture, we were also served complimentary oysters to start our meal. The service was wonderful throughout: attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. A fantastic dining experience that we would happily recommend.”
