About The Terrace Cafe
The Terrace Cafe sits inside the Botanic Gardens on Inverleith Row, a park cafe in Edinburgh that gives garden visitors somewhere to stop for coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Orders are placed at the counter, where a cashier takes them. The tea side runs through the Shibui Tea Core Range and a Shibui Tea Seasonal Blend, with espresso drinks poured alongside, and the 26-item menu spans bakes such as rhubarb rose scones as well as hot and cooked food. Gluten free and lighter choices are marked on the list. Outdoor tables extend the seating for eating in the open air, high chairs make it workable for families with young children, and a step-free entrance opens the room to visitors with mobility needs. Takeaway is available for anyone carrying food off to a bench in the gardens. Booking ahead is advised. The cafe opens daily, during daytime hours only.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee comes up most, paired in nearly every account with the baked goods: a chocolate brownie, plain and rhubarb rose scones, and little polenta cakes singled out as gluten free and delicious, though one visitor rated the coffee only OK. The setting inside the Botanic Gardens draws steady praise as a beautiful spot for a drink while walking the grounds, and several describe the staff as welcoming, with one crediting a single server for multitasking through a busy stretch. Cleanliness is the recurring complaint: two reviewers describe sticky or spilled tables with nowhere clean to sit, one adding that the toilets were clean but the chairs and tables were not, and one reports being served tea in a dirty cup. Service pace draws criticism too, from slow attention at the counter to crowded, noisy rooms full of children. One party recounts ordering a quiche and a toastie, watching later arrivals served first, following up twice, and never receiving the quiche.

“Lovely atmosphere, though the overall service could be better. Huge shoutout to the lady in the black long sleeves with the hair bun, though—she was fantastic! She was multitasking like a pro and doing the work of multiple people seamlessly.”

“Great coffee and delicious scones (we had plain and rhubarb rose) in the botanical gardens... lovely!”

“Ordered a quiche and a toastie. Ordered well before anyone else there that arrived after us. They were all served food well before us. Many people got a quiche that ordered after us. We followed up twice and got told quiche just took longer. It never came.”

“I had a very pleasant experience at the Terrace Café in the Botanic Gardens. I tried a chocolate brownie, another cake, a coffee and a tea, all of which were enjoyable. It’s not cheap, but this is Edinburgh and it’s a park café, which are often priced at a premium, so it felt fairly in line with expectations. The staff were lovely and welcoming, and the café seemed clean and well looked after. I didn’t try any hot food, but based on my visit, some of the more negative reviews felt a little unfair. The location itself is beautiful, and I imagine on a summer’s day it’s a really nice place to stop for a drink or a refreshment while enjoying the gardens.”
