Quick info
About The Mash Tun
The Mash Tun is an independent gastropub at 154 Easter Rd in Edinburgh, close to Hibernian FC's ground. Rugby and football show on large TV screens, and the pub gets busy on game days. The taps carry a mix of ales alongside other beers, and game nights add to the programme for regulars. The kitchen turns out burgers and fish and chips, with sticky toffee pudding to finish. The pub is walk-in. New owners are now behind the bar.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often describe a local sports pub on Easter Road, where large TV screens show the main sporting events and football fans stop in near the Hibernian ground. Friendly staff and a good mix of ales on tap come close behind, including a Clwb Tropicana that one reviewer was delighted to find. Several note the pub has recently changed hands, and the new owner and bartenders are called friendly and accommodating. Food draws mixed reactions. A burger and French onion soup earn praise, but others call the food basic, and one says recent management has done the kitchen on the cheap while still charging excessive prices. One reviewer describes a very slow fish and chips order, and another reports filthy ladies' toilets. Drinks are called a tad expensive for a pub outside the centre. One reviewer suggests booking on game days. One diner recalls staff seating and serving them near the end of lunch, even bringing out a sticky toffee pudding after the kitchen had just closed.

“This was our favorite pub and meal during our time in Scotland. It’s a true gastropub with higher quality tastier food. We arrived near the end of lunch service but the staff made sure we were seated, served and even got our sticky toffee pudding despite the kitchen just closing. We liked it so much we came back a second time. Great French onion soup, burger and the best sticky toffy pudding of the trip!”

“Very bad pub experience in the U.K… They should be ashamed, that they managed to spend 45 minutes, making a fish and chips? Like come on, there was barely people there who ordered food??? Strongly advise people to chose another pub! The staff were neither friendly or welcoming, and you barely got greeted after you said hello first? Then one of the bartender continuously kept standing in the way of the screen showing rugby? This bloke even got the audacity to meet eyes, and repeatedly keep coming back to block the screen? To top it off, the pricing was so overpriced, and this is coming from a Norwegian fella!.. close to 30 pounds for a burger and a gin & tonic? At a small pub? My recommendations, spend your money better than I wasted mine.”

“This pub keeps changing hands but for whatever reason the food continues to be really bad. When we first moved to the area in 2017 this place was excellent, and did amazing Scottish tapas. Everyone who's taken charge since has seemingly tried to do the food on the cheap while still charging excessive Edinburgh prices. Come for drinks by all means - the good atmosphere and showing of sports has been restored - but someone needs to take a fundamentally different approach to the kitchen.”
