About Bertie Mooney's
Bertie Mooney's is a bar and kitchen at 85 Commercial St in Dundee, and the only bar in the city serving Tennents Tank Lager, with unfiltered Tennents on tap for anyone who wants it poured that way. The food side of the menu covers a build-your-own breakfast with toast and beans, a carvery and steak pie, so the kitchen handles both morning and main meals. The bar is open daily. Guests are asked to wait to be seated when they arrive, and a sign at the entrance says so. Photos line the walk to the washroom.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast draws the most mentions. A couple of reviewers call it good and describe helpful staff and clean tables, though one found the build your own breakfast a kids portion, with a single slice of toast and a tablespoon of beans. Portions split opinion elsewhere. The steak pie is described as incredibly generous and delicious, and others call portions good, while the macaroni and lasagne were criticised as heavy on cheese with little else, and staff seemed uninterested when this was raised. Reviewers also single out the unfiltered Tennents, noting it is the only place in Dundee serving it, along with a good variety of drinks. Service is the recurring weak point. One party waited at the sign asking them to be seated, were ignored by two staff members and left. Another says the kitchen shut earlier than advertised without anyone telling them. A carvery diner was given a slightly dry red velvet cake after the cheesecake ran out. The interior earns praise, and one reviewer enjoyed the long, winding walk to the washroom past framed photos.

“lovely food, good portion sizes. Would say they need to be more accurate with what times they are advertising food is on at, says food is on till late which we assumed meant after atleast 9.Kitchen shut at 7pm and we never got told, we asked about desserts but kitchen closed.Defo think they should update the times or let people know that are coming in so they’re not left disappointed”

“There's a sign on the way in that says "please wait to be seated. " We waited .... and waited....and were ignored by 2 members of staff. One was setting tables, one was dealing with the only other 2 people in the place. It wasn't busy. We waited some more then left. Not surprised it was empty. Nice building though.”

“We visited for Easter Sunday dinner and were seated quickly, with drinks taken promptly. However, we waited around 15 minutes before our food order was taken. We chose the carvery but weren’t asked about dessert or given a menu despite selecting two courses. The food itself was enjoyable, but we again waited about 15 minutes to ask about dessert. With no menu provided, we picked from the display. The cheesecake was unavailable, so we had red velvet cake instead—large portion, but slightly dry (helped by the ice cream). My partner also noticed an odd aftertaste. Overall, the service was disappointing, with poor communication and disorganisation. A mediocre visit that could be improved with better staff coordination and food quality.”

“Visited in the evening for beers and came back for breakfast both were great experiences. Really liked the interior, it has a unique and welcoming vibe. The only challenge (and a funny one) is finding the washroom you have to walk quite a bit, with lots of turns along the way, but you end up passing some amazing photos, so it’s an experience in itself 😄 Overall, a lovely place worth visiting”
