About Darley Abbey Wines
Darley Abbey Wines is a wine bar and event venue set in The Stables in Derby, doubling as a wine wholesaler and importer. The drinks list, including an own-distilled gin called The Uncommon Thread, is a clear draw, and live music adds to the room. Service runs on a bookings-only basis, so walk-ins are sometimes turned away, and guests pay when ordering. The bar handles events alongside its evening trade.

Customer Review Summary
Several reviewers praise the wine selection and the venue's own gin, describing a friendly, knowledgeable team. Others report a very different experience: turning walk-ins away even when empty, understaffing that left them waiting half the evening, loud noise, and being asked to leave a table they had just been served. Some return for the live music.

“Is it a club or a wine bar. Goodness it was loud. Empty too. No cheese boards. Desperately needs to step up.”

“We went to this place on Saturday (yesterday) the place was practically empty and we were told that every table was booked. So we could not stay for a few drinks. So the two of us left and went next door where we stayed for the whole evening. What sort of business turns away trade when you are literally empty? Yes, your tables may have a booking on them but it was clear that they were for later in the afternoon as they were empty. If this was my business I would be fuming turning away clients when you could quite easily have served the two of us and told us that where ever we sat or stood would need to be clear by a certain time. Bad business and bad service.”

“Can’t even walk in and get a glass of wine after going for a meal at lorentes bookings only! Asked if we could go outside and they said no? It’s definitely changed from when they first opened!”
