About The Standing Order
The Standing Order is a Wetherspoons pub at 28-32 Iron Gate in Derby, set in a former bank building with tall ceilings. Real ales are on offer, and the pub runs to a large interior. The food menu covers fish and chips, curries and a large breakfast, with burgers, pizzas and finger food alongside. Food is served late into the night, so the kitchen suits late-night diners as well as the daytime crowd. Orders can be placed through the app. CAMRA vouchers are accepted at the bar.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the low drink prices and the grand old building, with one describing two ales for less than the price of one elsewhere and another calling it a time warp to a more glorious past. The beer is described as cold, and a large breakfast, fish and chips with crisp, fluffy chips and gorgeous batter, and a late menu of pizzas, burgers and curries also get praise. Camra vouchers are accepted, and one reviewer found a beer festival running. Service splits the reviews. A few report staff who were fast and polite, even queuing up to serve, while others describe tables piled with dirty plates and glasses, plus a bar that ignored a customer twice. One reviewer says two separate visits meant a long wait for a drink, ending with them leaving without the drinks they had paid for. On the first visit a refund took a further stretch at the bar. Others mention slow app orders, loud crowds, and a missing steak, gammon and mixed grill menu. One reviewer who was unable to have peas was offered no substitute.

“Nice big Wetherspoons with the usual value for money. Both large indoor and outdoor areas and plenty of staff so you're not waiting too long! Recommended”

“Possibly the most interesting Pub that I have ever been to. Just walking in, you are instantly confused - is this a Pub, or is it a time warp to a more glorious past. The food and drink were great, but you don't just come here to refresh yourself or be social, you come here to reflect, to absorb the living history all around you. You can come here on your own and never look at your phone for the next couple of hours, there is so much to see. A fantastic place - thank you.”

“Do not usually like to leave bad reviews but after 2 separate occasions of it taking over 20 minutes to be served a drink in a half empty pub I feel it's only fair to warn people. On both occasions we have ended up leaving without ever being given the drinks we had already paid for. The first time I was able to get a refund but even that took 10 minutes and being spoken to like I was the problem. Second time I didn't bother. Worst service I've ever known in a pub and won't be going back as I don't particularly like anywhere that takes money but can't provide a service. Not sure if it's a staffing issue or just bad management but either way there's countless other pubs in Derby where you can order a drink and actually be served it on the same day.”

“I know it was Father's Day. But please is it difficult to clean tables? Not Just Clear them? Not a fan of the Busboy Trolley parked in entrance to alcove. It really wasn't welcoming at all. As vast majority of All the tables were covered with dirty plates, glasses, bottles and rubbish. Eventually got served after being ignored twice? I've worked in a bar. I wasn't showy and knew I'd been seen by the staff ignoring me! Bonus the staff member who did serve me brought my drinks over. The meal and drinks as cheap as I remember. NO STEAK OR GAMMON? NO MIXED GRILL? What's that about? I don't understand that at all. So we had fish and chips. Neither of us could have peas and no offer of a substitution. Luckily for me, they redeemed themselves. The chips were crisp and fluffy. The fish tasty and batter gorgeous. But thats it! We left feeling let down. Come on Weatherspoons! Bring the Steak based menu back. Bring the Steak or Curry or Burger nights back in the week!”

“Nice spot to grab food and drinks till late night. They actually serve food pretty late and there’s a good variety — finger food, pizzas, burgers, curries, etc. The food is great and very reasonably priced as well as the drinks. Mostly a young crowd and the place is big. It gets packed on weekends though, and the staff are always busy. Can be tough to get their attention for service or even just cleaning. It’s pretty loud in here, but that means you can talk your heart out without worrying. Good for casual late-night food and drinks if you don’t mind the noise and busy vibe.”
