About The Spice Lounge
The Spice Lounge is an Indian restaurant on Friar Gate in Derby, open daily and evenings only. The dining room has a modern look with soft lighting, and the menu offers imaginative variations on Indian favourites alongside Bangladeshi and South Asian dishes. The mixed grill comes with a veg curry on the side, and dahl taka and other daals have their place on the menu. Garlic naan and cheese naan are baked fresh. An early bird menu is also offered. The owners and managers go around the tables to check on diners.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the naan, calling the garlic naan "fluffy" and the freshly baked bread "pillowy" and cooked perfectly. Close behind are generous portions, such as a mixed grill with a veg curry on the side and a curry with lots of chicken, along with the shahi lamb, dahl taka and a pornstar martini. Service draws steady praise as friendly and welcoming, with owners or managers visiting tables, a large football group handled with food arriving together, and staff moving existing bookings to seat a late Friday arrival. One diner says staff suggested an alternative to the dish they planned to order, and another points to the early bird menu as brilliant value. Reviewers also describe the interior as stylish, unlike old curry house restaurants. The one complaint concerns takeaway, where a reviewer found the food watery, the chicken hard and the cheese naan nearly cheeseless, and says the restaurant promised a call back that never came.

“Darren and Keely brought us here as its their favourite place and I can totally understand why. The food and the service was 10/10. The best Bangladeshi food i've ever tasted and I loved that they recommended an alternative to what I was going to order because it was unreal. Will absolutely be back. Thank you.”

“3 generations of one family with Grandad and a couple of others trying The Spice Lounge for the first time. Our view at the end of a lovely meal: Great service - helpful, warm and attentive. Great food - food is great here all the time in my view! Great value - we had the early bird menu - brilliant value for money!”

“Outstanding Food & Flawless Service for Large Groups! We hosted our football team’s end-of-season meal at The Spice Lounge last night, and we couldn’t be more impressed. Catering for a group of over 20 hungry people is no easy feat, but The Spice Lounge handled it flawlessly: * The Food: Absolutely outstanding. They offer an extensive menu with incredible variety, and every single dish served to our table was packed with flavor, fresh, and cooked to perfection. * The Service: Excellent from start to finish. Despite our large group size, the staff was attentive, organized, and incredibly welcoming, ensuring our drinks stayed full and food arrived together. * The Atmosphere: Brilliant. They created the perfect environment for us to celebrate our season, making for a truly fantastic and memorable evening. We cannot speak highly enough of The Spice Lounge. If you are looking for excellent food and hospitality—whether it's an intimate dinner or a large group celebration - we highly recommend them and will definitely be back! Thank you to all Kerron, Shah and all the staff for a brilliant night! ⚽️🏆🍛”

“Great meal at Spice Lounge last week! A very generous portion with lots of chicken in the curry and the naan bread was cooked perfectly. The interior also feels very stylish - a far cry from the old 'curry house' style restaurants. I've been to alot of Indian restaurants but this one is definitely up there. Highly recommend.”
