Quick info
About The Base Bar
The Base Bar is a coffee shop inside a gym at 19 Enterprise Way in Derby, and its menu is open to people who are not gym members. Protein waffles with 35g of protein and protein shakes sit alongside a breakfast and brunch menu, so a post-workout order and a sit-down meal both fit. Smashed avocado with poached eggs on sourdough is one of the cooked dishes, and gluten-free bread is available. Coffee drinks include iced lattes made with oat milk or almond milk, and the team also makes matcha drinks. The space is on the smaller side, with music playing. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the granola, whether a berry granola bowl, granola with yogurt and honey, or a homemade version one diner called really really good. Close behind are the avocado dishes, smashed avocado with poached eggs on sourdough and avocado toast, along with the halloumi rice bowl, the cajun chicken wrap, and the English breakfast and pancakes. Lattes made with oat or almond milk and gluten-free bread get praise from diners with dietary needs, and several describe the staff as friendly and the atmosphere as welcoming. The protein waffles and shakes served in the gym setting also draw fans. Complaints are fewer but specific. One reviewer asked for oat milk in a matcha, believed it contained skimmed milk, and poured it away, also finding the blondies stale and the visit overpriced. Another says the smoothie is really a milkshake and the music is a bit too loud. Two reviewers name the peanut butter protein cups as a favourite.

“Brilliant polite staff. The breakfast....groanala was amazing. People might say just a simple dish. No way. Home made it was really really good . The Green smoothie. Healthy, very tastie . Worth every penny. Really enjoyed. The other dishes- as other customers were being served looked very contemporary and mind blowing . Thankyou had such a memorable visit.”

“We went to The Base Bar for brunch and was pleased by the range of healthy options available. Also, as a gluten-free and dairy-free visitor I was still able to choose an iced latte with almond milk and a delicious breakfast with gluten free bread. The food came out fresh and hot and tasted lovely. My husband and I were both pleased with the portion sizes and quality of food. The service was good and atmosphere was pleasant. It got quite busy while we were in there showing that this is a great spot for food and drink! Would definitely go back.”
