Customer Review Summary
Korean-style chicken stands out most, praised both as the marinated chicken on the royal kebab and as the wings one reviewer calls so good. Close behind is the beer selection, with cask and keg options and real ales that several diners single out. The food is described as hearty, proper and freshly made, with the Kilkenny pie, a homemade scotch egg with Oxford sauce, a homemade burger and a pork roll with roasties all named. Not everything lands. One reviewer found the kebab's pork dry, some fries overdone and hard, and a vegetarian tajine mediocre, and that same visit involved a long wait for food and a wait at the door despite a reservation. Another found the chips too salty. Roadworks make access more difficult but far from impossible, and one reviewer advises booking ahead for weekend food. Service is mostly called friendly, and one diner finished a Monday tea with cornflake cake and chocolate custard.

“I've been in the area with colleagues on a training course trip this week & we stumbled across this cracking boozer by accident. Boy oh boy am I glad we did! We have eaten in the Exeter Arms in Derby 3 of 5 nights whilst here, all had something different each night & it's been outstanding! Very hearty proper tasty food! Highly recommend trying this place. My pic shows the Kilkenny pie which was amazing!!!”

“Lovely pub in a seemingly desolate location (lots of construction going on at the moment). The staff were very friendly and service was good. The food was great, freshly made, big portions, good quality, tasty. The beer selection is also good, cask and keg options of quality beers. Finished on a port for me and Baileys for the wife which hit the spot. Would recommend for anyone fancying a pub tea. Would go back for food or just for a few beers if I find myself in the area again!”

“Popped in mid afternoon following a trip to the cricket. Food and drink were great with super friendly yet professional service. Hopefully the roadworks that make access more difficult (but far from impossible) will be sorted soon. Happy to recommend.”

“Proper Old School Pub. Went on Monday after work for tea. Really nice food and great selection. We definitely didn't need a pudding but you can't turn down Cornflake Cake and chocolate custard 😋”

“Impromptu call in for a drink and late lunch and these guys never disappoint. Staff are amazing and there is a nice selection of drinks. Korean chicken wings are so good and I can highly recommend. The pork roll with roasties was delicious and gave Sunday roast vibes. Will be back again!”
