  “Visited for the first time last week. The food was good and portions were generous, and the beer garden was very pleasant. However, the service was extremely slow. We were in a bit of a rush, and although the menu advises that food is freshly prepared and may take around 45 minutes or longer, we did not expect to wait over 1.5 hours on a day that wasn't particularly busy. I would recommend visiting only if you have a flexible schedule and don't mind waiting longer than expected.”

  “Maria’s Kitchen is a gem. The moment you walk in, you feel the warmth of a real Portuguese home. The food is tradicional, full of authentic flavours and cooked with the kind of love you only find in proper Portuguese kitchens. Every dish tastes like it came straight from a family recipe.The owners are genuinely friendly and welcoming, creating an atmosphere that makes you want to return again and again.   “Maria's Kitchen, located within the charming The Romer Arms in Newnham, is a true culinary phenomenon. It’s fascinating to see how a quintessential British pub has been transformed into a temple of Portuguese cuisine, where locals and visitors alike are completely won over by the famous Steak on the Stone and the bold, Mediterranean flavours. For me, Maria's Kitchen holds a very special place in my heart, primarily for one reason: the Squid and Prawn Espetadas. Just thinking about them makes my mouth water! It’s a divine combination—tender squid and succulent prawns, all perfectly seasoned to the point where you’ll want to lick the skewer clean. It is, hands down, the dish that makes every trip there worth it. More than just a restaurant or a pub, it’s a place where the hospitality of Maria and her team makes you feel like part of the family. The portions are generous, the quality is consistent, and the friendly atmosphere is contagious. If you want to know what it’s like to eat real food made with soul, this is the place. A well-deserved top rating for a team that puts so much love into everything they do!”

  “I ate here for the first time yesterday and WOW! The food is simply stunning, freshly cooked and a delight to savour. The owners are so friendly and Maria is a fantastic cook. How refreshing to find a restaurant with authentic delicious homemade cooking, delicious Portuguese wine and a cosy welcoming atmosphere- all at a very competitive price. Can’t recommend enough.   “We were staying over for one night in a nearby village and visited Maria's on a whim on the hunt for food. We were so very happy we did! The food was lovely, the service was fantastic and every single member of staff we interacted with was so friendly and attentive. The portions were excellent, we even ended up taking home some leftovers and grabbing so desserts to go (which are absolutely not to be missed!). If we ever find ourselves in the area again we will be back for sure ✨”
