About Nantyffin Cider Mill Inn

Nantyffin Cider Mill Inn is a family-run country inn and restaurant on Brecon Rd in Crickhowell. The menu draws on seasonal Welsh produce, and the Sunday roast serves slow-roasted pork, beef and lamb with cauliflower cheese, a large Yorkshire pudding, a stuffing ball and roast potatoes. In December the roast adds turkey and Christmas pudding. Pie and steak nights run alongside loaded burgers, with garlic bread and onion rings as sides. The stone building also holds the Mill Room, which hosts weddings. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Sunday lunch is the draw at Nantyffin, with reviewers praising the roast with slices of pork, beef and lamb described as melt-in-the-mouth, plus a huge Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and fresh vegetables. One reviewer singles out the December roast turkey, and several say the place is full on Sundays and suggest booking. Close behind are the weddings held in the Mill Room, where the family-run team is described as helpful from the first message, and the loaded burgers, garlic bread and onion rings, with a small play area that kept a child busy. The complaints are real. One Sunday table in the cold main dining room got plates that were only warm, a roast beef that turned out to be lamb, and mixed-meat plates arriving late. Others describe overpriced, flat fish and chips, a very small portion, a limited drinks selection, and some rude waitresses. One drinks order bounced between the bar inside and the outside tables, ending with Prosecco offered in a plastic beaker. Reviewers also mention the stone building being very cold, and one diner's booking was moved to suit an early arrival.

“Food was terrible and the portion size is ridiculously small. The interior is lovely though and most waitresses were friendly but some rude. Wouldn't go back. Shame as we'd had a long dive and were anticipating a good meal.”

“Frankly, this was a deeply disappointing experience from start to finish. The drinks selection is limited but it’s the service that really lets the place down. Inattentive, and at times outright rude. The ordering process felt like a farce. I was told to order inside, only to be ignored at the bar, then redirected outside. Outside, I was informed the drink I wanted had to be ordered… inside. And then, to cap it all, an attempt to serve Prosecco in a plastic beaker. There are far better options elsewhere. Save your time, your money, and your patience!”

“So disappointed, can only assume the pictures on google and their website are of a function room as I have never seen a pub so bland, lacking character and atmosphere. Would have gone elsewhere had we not booked a table in advance. We were the only ones eating, not surprised. Food was ok but overpriced £49 for flat as a pancake fish and chips, ham egg and chips and two drinks. Chips seemed to be from Iceland (not the country). Bar person was friendly and courteous but at one stage she was being told off for not answering the phone and someone seemed to be having an argument in the room marked private to the side of the bar. Far more prettier pubs in Crickhowell,”

“Sunday Roast dinner, with a slice of each meat for £4 extra, plus a latte, total cost appx £24-£25 per head. WORTH EVERY PENNY! The locals were queuing to get in at 12 noon, so I knew I'd picked a good restaurant! I recommend booking a table as it is very popular. We arrived an hour early but they moved our booking to suit us. The 3 slices of meat (pork, beef and lamb) were melt-in-the-mouth and very succulent. Side dishes of vegetables (fresh carrots, peas and broccoli, nothing frozen) and cauliflower cheese, a huge yorkshire pudding, stuffing ball and 3 well roasted potatoes, alongside extra gravy in a boat. Absolutely delicious and super-filling. I would whole-heartedly recommend! 🥰”

“Despite the busy bank holiday the food was tasty with decent portions. The loaded burgers were very good. And the garlic bread and onion rings were on point. Lovely staff, great location. And the small play area was good keeping my daughter busy for a bit too.”
