  “First visit to this resteraunt and was pleasantly surprised. Whilst on first view it seems a little pricey the food is exceptional and so is the service. Don't be fooled by the "small plates" terminology, when you choose from the Thursday special menu, three is plenty leaving a little room for desert if you want to. Cocktails were also great value. Thank you very much for a lovely evening.”

  “Food was OK without being memorable but was horribly over-priced. The menu offered a little choice but wasn’t original, interesting or inventive. Lamb leg steak was a little over-cooked. Cabbage with worcestershire-sauce mushrooms was the highlight. Ambience was good, service a bit casual. This restaurant could be wonderful but needs to improve the value and be more creative.”

  “Absolutely not worth the money. Don't get me wrong, the food is nice, but I left there feeling extremely angry about how much we got charged for so little food. £12 for 2 small carrots. £11 for 4 cauliflower florets. That's not a typo. £16 for a small piece of fish and a bit of sauce and tiny amount of chorizo. Wine was also very expensive, when we'd just left somewhere nearby and paid far less, for nicer wine. All in all, wouldn't recommend.”

  “One of the best spots for food in Abergavenny! I’ve been spoilt to celebrate my birthday here every year since moving to Abergavenny and the food has never disappointed. The small plates offer a unique menu which you wouldn’t usually find elsewhere (things like monkfish) so it’s nice to have something different. We recently had a Sunday lunch after hearing great things, and again, we were not disappointed! One of the best roasts we’ve ever had out. What’s great is that you can also purchase gift vouchers for friends, which we have done. Definitely add this spot to your list if you’re visiting Abergavenny!”

  “I had the lunch-club lunch here in April 2026, and the whole meal was excellent. So too was the service. I'll definitely try to come here again next time I'm in Abergavenny.”

  “Great place for a special meal - so many of the dishes with a modern twist. Forgot to take photos until the puddings that were something like Black Forest gateau, strawberry cheesecake & affogato - only the last one being a very delicious version of what you might have expected! Outside area for summer nights in its well hidden courtyard.”

  “While a couple of dishes stood out, overall, the food and service were satisfactory at best, bordering on mediocre. Even as a resident of London, I find the pricing unjustified considering the quality of the experience. The initial dishes, including sourdough with marmite butter and scallops, were delightful. However, subsequent dishes failed to meet expectations. The chicken terrine lacked presentation, the buffalo chicken was overly tough, and the carrots were soggy and sour. The pork belly was particularly disappointing with a very unpleasant smell; thankfully, the restaurant was willing to take it back and not charge us for this dish. Except the pork belly, we felt hesistent to feed back as we were never asked whether we liked the food until we asked that the pork belly be returned to the kitchen. The rhubarb dessert, although decent ingeneral, came with dry rhubarb and cream with minimal vanilla beans. We were gravely concerned about the apparent lack of food safety knowledge of a particular waiter. Our request for dessert sooons was met by the said waiter taking utensils from another table with customers waiting for their food without even first asking them, which we found unprofessional. Proper practice should be providing clean cutlery from designated drawers. We do not recommend this restaurant. Surely there are better options available in the area that offer superior quality, potentially at a lower cost, and with better service.”

  “Loved everything about it! Friendly courteous service. Delicious beautifully presented dishes - everything was good and had a special something. Dishes are pretty small so if you are hungry you need to order 3-4 dishes each - we went pretty wild on the menu and got more but left pleasantly stuffed. I appreciated that the menu gave clear information on that so there were no surprises as to the portion size. There was seating both inside and outside and both were bright relaxing spaces. Would definitely go again - in fact we may even go back this week. Apparently the dishes on the menu change fairly frequently so we’re looking forward to trying some new dishes.”

  “"Small plates restaurant" becomes more and more popular concept nowadays. But the Gaff still does it better than most I've been to. It's a mix of different flavors, but out of 7 dishes, we didn't have a single that I would consider weak or boring. Oyster tempura were very interesting, so is bang-bang cauliflower, so are Moroccan carrots. You'll be surprised even by fishes you think you know well, like the sweet&sour duck. All in all, great dinner, super friendly service by Kelsey, very happy that we picked that restaurant for our first night in Abergavenny !”

  “A gem! We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch! Food was great and staff was very attentive. We have quite a few allergies, and they had prepared a menu clearly identifying our dietary requirements and also served certain dishes separately to cater for our different requirements in our group. Every single dish was beautifully presented. I particularly enjoyed the fish dishes and their crispy thin batter.”
