About Yipin Bashu

On Fairfax St in Coventry, Yipin Bashu serves Sichuan cooking alongside standard Chinese restaurant fare. The kitchen leans into spice, with dishes like home special beef noodles, Szechuan noodles, and beef pho, and spice levels can be adjusted on request, including meat left out of dishes such as vegetable noodles. Dining in is cash only, so diners should plan payment accordingly, while those eating off site can order pickup or delivery through the HungryPanda app. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance serves visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are available for families with young children. The restaurant is open daily, and reservations are recommended. Egg fried rice rounds out the regularly ordered dishes.

Customer Review Summary

The home special beef noodles and Szechuan noodles draw the most praise, with reviewers repeatedly calling the noodle dishes among the best they've had and the broth and sauce especially tasty. Close behind, the salt and pepper fried fish and egg fried rice earn praise for being crispy and flavorful, and several note the Szechuan-style spicy dishes as authentic and appetizing, with staff able to adjust spice levels or swap ingredients on request. Portions are generally described as generous, and one diner highlights a friendly, attentive waitress across repeat visits. Recurring friction centers on cash-only payment, mentioned across multiple reviews as inconvenient, though delivery via an app is noted as a workaround. Complaints vary in severity: one review describes spring rolls as overcooked and a dish with excessive bones, while another reports raw vegetables with dirt and a delivery order that arrived sparse and off-tasting. Separately, one reviewer describes being mocked and ignored by staff who spoke Chinese and laughed at her, an account of discriminatory treatment reported as her experience rather than an established pattern.

“Omg That's very tricky and stupid! I don't know what words to use to express it. I tried Chinese cuisine a long time ago, but everything was normal at that time. It was just that some of the food tasted very strange and the seasonings were very heavy. Overall, it was acceptable. But a long time later, I went to have stir-fried vegetarian dishes! It's all raw, with mud and sand! I'm feeling extremely unwell! It was only now that I got my account back. The most disgusting thing was my experience with food delivery! Not only is the packaging poor, making it hard for me to use, but when I opened it, I thought it had already been eaten! Because the quantity is extremely small and the taste is strange! Why are you getting worse and worse? I'm very disappointed!”

“I was ignored several time mocked at, laughed at. they spoke Chinese infront of me and literally laughed. by both waitress and the cashier. I went in there and asked for recommendations I said I liked fried rice. ive been inform that its cash only. I said cool im at the hotel I can withdraw money and come. she saw me the menu as we are talking I said to her I don't like noodles . she constantly points at the fried rice n noodles . I tried turning the page to see something. she flip the page back to where she has it. mind the chinesse are been feed and well attended too. she's if you don't want this fried go. So Im thinking language barrier. she said the same thing and she walked off. I explain it to the cashier. she's avoiding the questions and the waitresses yesterday. went to her and continued talking in Chinese and laughing at me. as a black girl do not go there.”

“We came here 2 times during our trip. Food is good and with generous portions. A student waitress is super friendly, attentive and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.”

“Spring rolls could have been softer they weren’t very full and way too crispy and over cooked. The noodles were average and the meat portions weren’t great, a lot of bones in my meal! Beef pho was the best part. Was not a glamorous meal I had heard about from others”

“I had a nice meal here! The fried fish was nice and crispy! The salt and pepper flavour was great with the egg fried rice 😋 I also ordered a vegetable noodles as well by request because it originally has meat in it. Thank you for this change 💕✨🌈”
