About Legends the Sandwich Shop

Sausage rolls made in the shop anchor the counter at Legends the Sandwich Shop, a sandwich shop and takeaway on Charter Ave in Coventry. Hot and cold batches with a range of fillings make up the main sandwich option, and jacket potatoes come with salad either on top or in a tray at the side. Orders are placed at the counter, so there is no booking, and food is packed to take away for eating off site during the working day. The shop opens Monday to Friday in the daytime and stays closed at weekends, which suits a weekday lunch run rather than a weekend one. New management has taken over, with a different team now working behind the counter. Boxed salads are sold alongside the potatoes and batches for anyone after a lighter option.

Customer Review Summary

Filled batches and sandwiches draw the most comment, with several reviewers praising the wide range of hot and cold fillings, generous portions and freshly made food, and one singling out the Peri and Quattro paninis alongside the hand made sausage rolls. Friendly, kind staff come up repeatedly among the positive accounts. Close behind sits a strong current of disappointment tied to what several describe as a decline since a change of management: slower service at lunchtime, staff described as short when answering questions, and sandwiches no longer made properly despite the fillings being listed on the walls. One customer recounts ordering a bacon and egg sandwich with extra filling and discovering at work it was bacon and sausage, with a sausage roll sold as hot that arrived otherwise. Another objected to warm wilted salad piled on top of a jacket potato rather than served alongside, and more than one calls the prices steep for what arrives.

“Since the change of management service has become much much slower. Otherwise it's fine, but not one to pop in on the lunch hour any more.”

“From Legends to Meh-gends. Friendly and familiar staff just disappeared. can no longer make a sandwich properly despite the fillings being listed on the walls. Quality of some of the food has gone downhill already. Cant say the staff aren't friendly, just seem to lack experience. Wont be coming back :( Unfortunate as legends lived up to its name until recently.”

“Good food, but ruined by the workers. Very short when answering questions and felt like they didn't want to be there or welcome any custom in. Would have gone back for the food but now won't be returning due to the attitude of the staff working there, a shame really!”

“I’ve been a few times now and it’s not that great I’m afraid. On my last visit I asked for a bacon and egg sandwich, I asked for extra bacon and egg as I was famished. While waiting, the sausage rolls caught my attention and I also bought one. I asked if the sausage rolls were hot and I was assured it was. It wasn’t until I left and got to work that I noticed that they’d given me a bacon and sausage sandwich which cost me £8. I was obviously not happy but very hungry. The sausages tasted like paper and were vile, so I threw them out and ate just the bacon sandwich. I don’t believe that I got any extra bacon or sausage as it looked normal stuffed or sized, if I did then I’m even more upset. The sausage roll looked amazing but just tasted okay. I probably would’ve enjoyed it more if it was actually hot like I was assured. Overall it’s another disappointing visit as I wasn’t overwhelmed on my previous visits. It’s a shame because it’s a smart looking shop and everything looks tasty. I won’t be recommending or returning again no matter how hungry sorry.”
