Quick info
About Sky Blue Tavern
Sky Blue Tavern is an Indian restaurant and sports bar on Hertford Pl in Coventry, run as the official sports bar and restaurant of Coventry City FC in partnership with Dhillon's Brewery. More than 20 TV screens cover the building, including a small one in each booth, so football stays in view from every table. Upstairs, larger screens face terrace-style seating set up for watching matches. The kitchen cooks curries and naans, and the menu lists a chicken thali served with dhal, roti and pappadom, plus the Mega Mix Grill for meat lovers. Burgers sit alongside the Indian dishes, among them a smash burger. A function room has plenty of tables and a projector, with space for a bouncy castle, and an Indian buffet is offered for events held there.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often point to the thali, with one chicken thali called excellent value and another reviewer highly recommending it. The curries, naans and dhal alongside it get steady praise. Close behind are the mixed grill, including a shared Mega Mix Grill, and a lamb curry. A smash burger and a takeaway curry also get good reviews. One host chose the Indian buffet with meat sizzlers for a children's party in the function room, and guests had no complaints. The recurring complaints are about service and the menu. Reviewers describe slow table service, repeated misunderstandings when ordering in a loud room, and starters arriving at the same time as mains. The mixed veg starter was compared to frozen packet samosas and spring rolls, and booths are called too small for six. One diner found that after the menu change there were no pub classics and no draught ales. That same reviewer noted the Guinness is poured slowly and carefully, and four strangers commented with them on how good it was.

“Popped into this lovely place and had the most amazing lamb curry and mixed grill, we also tried a really good smash burger. All the staff were very welcoming. Also managed to watch an exciting football match whilst I was there. Will definitely visit again when I'm in the area”

“Following menu change; no pub classics . Food is all Asian; a few burgers . Not a great place to eat. There are no draught Ales. The Guiness is poured slowly and carefully, four complete strangers commented with me how good the Guiness is. Nowhere near the football ground. Each booth has a small TV, there is an upstairs; large TVs with seating as per football terrace for watching home games.”

“Cannot fault the bar service, been a few times now and used to be spot on with everything. Went yesterday for drinks and watching football, no issues with bar service and drinks etc but terrible manager (male) shouting at female bartender out in the open air area. Not just shouting but personal insults and total loss of control. Same manager also shouting directly at a customer, don't know why. Such a shame as used to be great but I wouldn't go back there the way it is now. Totally unprofessional behaviour from the manager. Feel sorry for the girl shouted at and any other staff working under him.”

“Recomended by my son who went the other week for a works night out . So we Ordered a takeaway this evening. Quick delivery And the curry was one if the best I have tasted In a long time . Will definitely be ordering again and definitely have to try the restaurant.”

“Some staff (bar) very friendly friendly, the staff who served the food not so! There was an awful smell of urine near where we sat that smelt like that they had attempted to mask with cleaning products. Ladies toilets taps were not fixed properly so moved side to side, needs some work to make it better.”
