Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the chicken thali, ordered as a Gabbar thali by one and praised alongside the veggie platter by another, with butter chicken, garlic rice, king prawn shashlik and a chicken tikka stuffed puri also named in happy meals. Service comes close behind, with several describing friendly staff, one noting a space arranged for prayer, and others calling the room cosy and inviting, with fairy lights. Samosa chaat, naans and two fish curries also earn praise. The picture is not uniform. Two reviewers found the biriyani disappointing, and one called the grilled fish poor. The harshest account describes undercooked, chewy fish and lamb chops, a butter chicken swimming in oil that was replaced by one described as worse, dal without tadka, and a 10% bill discount that felt insulting. Another reviewer felt the butter was overused. The complimentary poppadoms are called a nice touch by more than one diner.

“⭐ Extremely disappointing experience – a disgrace to the name of a “Dhaba” Visited My Dhabba on Spon Street yesterday with my bestie, expecting a comforting and authentic Indian meal. Unfortunately, the only thing we genuinely enjoyed was the welcoming poppadum. What followed was one of the most disappointing Indian meals I have had. We ordered the Non-Veg Starter Platter, and both the fish and lamb chops appeared severely undercooked to us and were incredibly chewy — almost rubber-like. We barely managed to eat them. Then came the Butter Chicken, which was swimming in oil, with what seemed like a little butter added on top almost as an afterthought. We raised the issue and the manager arranged a replacement, but astonishingly, the second Butter Chicken was even worse. The Tadke Wali Dal was another disappointment. Where was the tadka? It tasted like plain boiled dal that had simply been served as it was. The Butter Roti and Butter Naan arrived with virtually no butter either. At that point, we were beginning to wonder whether “butter” and “tadka” were merely decorative words on the menu. The Mango Lassi jug was bearable, but when that becomes one of the highlights of an entire Indian meal, something has clearly gone very wrong. Customer service made the experience even worse. The waiters seemed to have very little knowledge of the dishes or even what went into them. When we asked basic questions about the food, they had to call the manager over to answer them. What disappointed us most, however, was the complete lack of concern after it was obvious that we had barely touched much of our food. There seemed to be little remorse or genuine attempt to understand just how unhappy we were with the meal. After everything, we were handed the bill with a 10% discount, which frankly felt almost insulting considering how much food had been left uneaten. A dhaba, to me, represents honest, hearty, flavourful Indian food — the sort of food that makes you feel at home. Sadly, our experience here was the complete opposite. It certainly wasn't “My Dhaba” for us. It was “My Dhabba” — a black spot on what Indian food should represent. Indian cuisine has an extraordinary culinary heritage, and calling something “Indian food” should come with some responsibility towards its flavours, preparation and authenticity. Based entirely on the food and service we personally experienced yesterday, I cannot recommend this place. Hugely disappointing.”

“We hadn't booked to eat here but we were eating early, we walked in but were lucky to get a table as it started to fill up quickly. We ordered: Starters The special King Prawn Shashlik Chicken tikka stuffed Puri Main Gabbar Thalia Butter Chicken & Garlic Rice I cant eat spicy hot food, but the husband loves it. We were not disappointed eating here. The food was so good. And that's putting it mildly. We will definitely be going back. I would recommend eating here no matter what your tastes are as they go out of their way to accommodate you. The service here is excellent. The restaurant is immaculate.”

“Really enjoyable meal on a Tuesday evening. Good selection of dishes on the menu. We chose two different fish curries and we were impressed by how good they were. Peshwari was one of the best my other half has eaten - he loved that it was topped with honey! We will definitely be coming back”
