About Alishaan

On Hallgate in Cottingham, Alishaan is an Indian restaurant serving classic British Indian-style curries from an extensive menu of old favourites. Portions are generous, and the lamb chops and king prawns both arrive in large servings, so a plate goes a long way across a table. Curries are the core of the kitchen's range, with a chicken madras and a Balti fish curry made with halibut among the options. A mixed tikka sharing plate works as a starter for the whole table, and the kitchen provides extra salad plates when the starter is shared.

Customer Review Summary

Generous portions of classic curries draw the most praise, with diners describing large lamb chops and king prawns, a Balti fish curry made with halibut, and a chicken madras that one regular says tastes the same every time. Garlic naan comes up repeatedly and is called excellent, though another diner found the naan lacking a little crispness. Staff are described as friendly, charming and attentive, and service as quick and efficient. A mixed tikka sharing plate and a side of Bombay aloo also earn mention, and one reviewer calls the mango lassi a must with a meal. The complaints centre on quantity and richness. One delivery customer received only a small handful of curry and mushroom rice and called the food merely decent, another found the food very oily, and a third thought the pricing a touch high, though acceptable given the portions. Several say they plan to return, and one diner had already booked a table for a repeat visit. Another was given extra salad plates for a shared starter.

“If anyone want to have proper British Indian Style of curry in hull then this is the go to place. I haven't seen so generous portions of every dish and their lamb chops & king prawns are huge in size. I order their Balti Fish (Halibut) curry and chef made excellently. Staffs are very friendly and good to chat with. Will definitely revise again”

“I have ordered food through uber eats , I spent 15£ all i got is little hand full of curry and little hand full mushroom rice. If you’re hungry and ordering food from this restaurant, never order. It’s too little food. I never gonna order from this place again. Food is just decent. Really disappointed.”

“We've been trying out different Indian restaurants near to where we live and decided to give this one a go. Overall this is your classic local Indian restaurant, with all the usual favorites being offered on the menu, so we felt quite at home ordering. We when for the mixed tikka sharing plate to start, then curry and rice each, a side of Bombay Aloo, and a garlic naan. All these items were very enjoyable, and well cooked. The portions were large in some cases more than we could eat. The service was excellent, and very quick. Only slight negative was we found the naan lacking a little crispness. The pricing was a touch on the high side, but acceptable as the portions were so large. It was more than good enough that we've already booked a table for a return in a couple of weeks.”

“Food was good, service was great. The food was very very oily though which was a bit offputting. I would still come back though as it was a tasty meal. The garlic naan was also excellent.”
