Customer Review Summary

Haddock draws the most praise, with diners calling the pan fried haddock delicious and the large haddock and chips excellent. Close behind are tasty home cooked roast dinners, a burger one reviewer loved, a crayfish salad and desserts described as huge. Several visitors staying at a nearby campsite describe a friendly welcome, a peaceful evening, chatty locals and a great beer garden on sunny days, and one mentions the pub is dog friendly. One reviewer suggests booking ahead to avoid disappointment. A recurring complaint from a few reviewers centres on the cook and a short, grumpy manner at the front of house. One says the kitchen was closing at 6:30pm on a Saturday, another received sandwiches on dry bread with no butter, and a third called the food sad and bland. One also found the draught beer and lager selection poor. The sharpest detail comes from a reviewer who overheard staff being told to add a 10% service charge to the bill.

“A very nice village pub, we didn't have food. Great beer garden and the staff were very pleasant and made us welcome. Definitely return.”

“⭐️⭐️ The Cock Inn – an appropriately named establishment Popped in for a couple of sandwiches and apparently accidentally interrupted someone’s bad day. The sandwiches arrived featuring bread that appeared to have been introduced to fresh air several days earlier, with butter seemingly considered an unnecessary extravagance. Service was provided by a lady who managed to be unwelcoming, short and grumpy with impressive efficiency. We weren’t entirely sure whether we’d ordered lunch or personally offended her. If you like your sandwiches dry and your hospitality even drier, The Cock Inn may well be the place for you. 😂”

“It's unfortunate that such a lovely village has such awful staff/cooks for what could and should be a nice pub. I see there reviews have been in recent decline so hope ownership can make the changes needed. The old cook in the back you can hear griping and moaning, clearly in the wrong industry for both temperament and talent. As food expectedly matched the service - sad and bland. With good pubs going under you can't see a future for pubs with staff like this. Avoid if you are hungry.”

“Lovely pub in a gorgeous setting. Fab on a sunny day. The team are brilliant, the land lady is very friendly and the food is great. Loved the burger. Book ahead to avoid disappointment!”

“Food is decent enough and the young staff serving were very pleasant and accommodating, although the selection of draught beer and lager was poor. The issue is the old woman who does the cooking being allowed front of house. She was mostly concerned with closing the kitchen at 6:30pm on a Saturday as she had been in there all day. Whilst I empathise it really isn't the customers problem. With only one other table booked for the evening I can understand why the pub is devoid of customers eating on a sunny Saturday evening. Overhearing locals talking outside about how rude the cook is and from my personal experience I certainly wouldn't return or recommend. I suspect the 5 star reviews come from customers that didn't encounter the cook.... In response to owners response: Clearly you are unaware as to how you present to customers and what your locals actually think about you. Wetherspoons are a hugely successful business and you could learn a lot from them without being them. Like perhaps not whispering to your staff to add 10% Service Charge to our bill. I may too be old but I'm not deaf nor daft.”
