About Kintsu
Down a dark alleyway off North Hill, Kintsu is a small tasting-menu restaurant in Colchester with around eighteen to twenty covers. The kitchen runs a seven-course tasting menu, extended tasting experiences, and wine pairings, with sourdough and cheese-and-marmite bites opening, followed by crab on custard, artichoke tart, pork, and a yuzu dish. A team of three, including a chef, a sous chef, and front of house, runs the room, and seating is kept simple and comfortable. Toilets are upstairs. The entrance is reached from the back of the NCP car park, and reservations are required.

Customer Review Summary
The tasting menu anchors the experience, with most diners praising its balanced, inventive flavors and attentive service, run by a small team of three. Named highlights include the yuzu dessert, pork course, crab on custard, and artichoke tart. A few note the plain, alleyway setting clashes with the food's quality, and several recommend booking ahead.

“If you want to celebrate in style the tasting menu at £90 a person is a real 'Master Chef' judging experience. The food is of exceptional quality and the Michelin recommendation is well deserved. The venues aesthetics aren't in line with the quality of the food but it doesnt detract from the experience.”

“Absolutely amazing, the food is incredible value for money and the service is wonderful, would absolutely go again in a heartbeat. Catered amazingly for a pescatarian member of the group as well without any issues and they did not have a reduced experience.”

“A gem in a back yard ; ) The tasting menu and wine pairing were escalating from lovely to almost too good : )) A truly remarkable place run by 3 (!) lovely humans. A special experience of great service and culinary craft. Thank you so much!!”

“This is a seriously hidden gem! You come out the back of the NCP and you are on top of this amazing venue. You soon realise that there are three staff, chef, a sous and the front of house staff member. There are around 18-20 covers and its a well appointed venue with comfortable seating. The greeting and service were very friendly and informative. Each course was quite subtle in flavour and stunningly presented. The flavours were superb and beautifully balanced too. Its a great experience worth the hours drive In each direction. I strongly recommend this restaurant. Do try the 7 course taster menu. Its great value and really tasty. My highlight was going to be the pork and then came along the yuzu and I was totally SOLD! Had a great chat to chef, what a nice guy really committed to his art! Nice clean toilets upstairs.”
