About Myland Fisheries

On Nayland Road in Colchester, Myland Fisheries is a fish and chips takeaway run for walk-in counter service. Haddock is offered as a made-to-order option alongside scampi and chips, and the kitchen fries to order rather than working from pre-cooked batches. An extra charge applies when paying by card. The shop is often busy and a wait is common at peak times, and the interior has the look of a typical neighbourhood chippy.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers split sharply, with the made-to-order haddock and chips the most common draw, called fresh, tasty and decent, and the chip portion described as good and well cooked. One praises the scampi and a clean shop. Complaints centre on cost: two say they were charged extra for paying by card, one finding prices higher than the menu. Another reports a missed item and nuggets like McDonald's.

“Nice little fish shop. Portion size for chips is good, cooked well. Often busy so can be a wait. As it should be with good chips.”

“Poor quality, chips were terrible. Charged extra as paying by card. Waste of money. Look elsewhere if your hungry and fancy a nice chip shop.”

“Disgustedly disgraceful, overpriced garbage, charged for using my card, avoid this place, charged much higher prices than the menu suggests.”

“I usually go to a different chippy but decided to try this place. It smells like a chippy and looks like a chippy, Obviously. The girl at the till seemed slightly rude, personally I dont care, but you might. An item was missed so I had to go back to get it. (luckily I live close) I shouldn't have to check my order before leaving... I would never get the chicken nuggets again as they are the same as McDonald's just more expensive. The made to order haddock was decent and so were the chips (but that would be hard to mess up) I wont be going again, unless I feel lazy that I cant be bothered to go to my usual chippy.”
