  “This place serves a proper English Sunday roast, service was prompt and top notch, conveniently located but away from the buzz of the town. Has interesting art that adds character to the place! Also Agatha was friendly and helpful 🙂 (thought I should throw it in there)!”

  “Honestly this is the best place in Colchester for food and drinks. Last night we attended the taste of summer night which was 7 courses of delicious food with matching wine. It was our anniversary and we received a lovely little card from the team at CST and complimentary fizz which was just a thoughtful treat. Our waiter (male and curly hair) was a breath of fresh air - friendly, knowledgeable on both the food and wine and spot on with bringing out the courses and wine. The Labneh was plentiful and just so tasty with the freshest of ingredients. The burrata was silky smooth and the tomatoes and smoked almonds were so complimentary. The lobster was one of my favourite dishes - if you could sum up the taste of the sea this was the dish and the Bloody Mary was a hit. The sea bass had the most crispy skin but the white flakes of fish were melt in the mouth and the mash potato was so smooth, the duck was so tasty but it was a little difficult to cut with a normal knife and I found the sauce a bit to tart for my palette. The Norfolk cheese was refreshing and the desert with its crispy meringue and caramelised pecan was devine. My husband and I shared the drinks package which was 7 glasses of various wines - the only comment I would have about this is that the wines as beautiful as they were would have been even better if our glass had been cleaned or changed between wines. Additionally having to use the same cutlery throughout the courses is something that maybe could be reviewed next time. We can’t wait for taste of autumn.”

  “I came for a meal in the restaurant, and prior to my meal I witnessed the curly hair bartender with a terrible attitude, swearing etc. There was a mistake with our drink and he shouted at our waitress when asked to remake it, immediately setting the tone for us. The food was fantastic and my service upstairs was good, but when we went back down to the bar we were met with the same disdain. Wonderful restaurant but I'd skip the bar.”

  “The most excellent mixologists here making quality cocktails. Frankie was a consummate professional. Definitely at the high end of a Colchester's bar scene but you get what you pay for. Recommend the amaretto sours! Great beer choice - recommend the Club Tropicana! A nice place for nice people.”

  “The Church Tavern was such a beautiful experience 😍 From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, relaxed and just a whole vibe. The food was absolutely delicious and I even tried oysters for the first time! 🦪👀 But what really made the experience special was the CST Team ànd our waitress, Agatha. She went above and beyond to make my 50th birthday feel memorable — surprising me with a birthday card and a glass of champagne 🥳🥂 Such a thoughtful touch, and she was honestly so lovely. Agatha, I hope you get all the good things coming your way ❤️ Felt so welcomed, had such a great time and I’ll definitely be back!”

  “I go there for almost every sunday, one of the very best for roast in the UK! I even look forward to their bread and olive oil dip! Customer service is very good specifically Agatha! Interior decor is very tasteful! I always have a great time, i hope you will be lucky as i am when you go there to get served by Agatha”

  “Really good food across the board. Bursting with flavour and small but quality menu. I had the monkfish as a main which was cooked well and portions were good. Rump of veal was also good although maybe cooked for an extra few seconds then I prefer. Great selection of wines and special shout out the member of staff who was working the bar for the first time having normally been in the restaurant. Price point matches the quality of the food and service. Recommended.”

  “One of the best restaurants in Colchester! We went for lunch and sat upstairs on the first floor — it was quiet and felt really relaxed. The service was amazing, very attentive and friendly. We shared the T-bone steak for two, and it was absolutely delicious. Great food, great service — highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back!”

  “OMG. So third time now we've been and somehow the food just gets better. Great decor and the service is quick and professional. Bonus being as soon as you sit down you get a bottle of still water with no charge. Why all restaurants don't do this is beyond me. Now to the food. We had Sunday roast. I had the beef and it was amazing. Also probably had the best roast potatoes I've ever had. They were epic. I had Cauliflower soup for a starter that was also delicious. Highly recommended.”
