Customer Review Summary

Fresh sushi anchors the praise, with reviewers singling out chutoro, otoro and salmon nigiri, a chirashi rice bowl and a chef's sushi bowl. One diner also enjoyed watching the chefs work at the pass. Close behind are the A5 wagyu and a steak chosen on the chef's recommendation, both described as cooked to perfection. Tonkatsu ramen, a chicken katsu sando, shishito peppers and tsukune skewers also earn mentions. The matcha tiramisu is called out by more than one diner, and cocktails and warm sake draw praise too. Service is described as friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Criticism is small but specific: the pork belly kushiyaki arrived dry, a seabass dish came in a very small portion, and one reviewer calls the place pricey. Two reviewers describe birthday meals, one ending with a waitress bringing ice cream with a candle, the other with the waiters singing happy birthday over a cake the diners had brought.

“We had chirashi sushi rice bowl for lunch which came with a drink (we went for coffee). They were all very decent and taste authentic (in modern Japanese style). The service was also quick and friendly. Quite popular among office workers in the area. For parking, Waitrose has 1.5 hours free and is just around the corner. We will try to come again to taste their dinner!”

“This is a great classy , pricey(but worth it) spot for really good sushi and high end cocktails Extensive Japanese menu. Staff attentive and friendly. Lovely bar area for pre and post dinner drinks. Food is fresh and they have weekly/ daily specials”

“Walked in without a reservation on a Tuesday evening and was seated within minutes. The food and service were good; the sushi was fresh, and the chicken thigh "momo" skewer was nicely seasoned and moist. However, the pork belly "buta" kushiyaki was dry but filling. Thankfully, the matcha tiramisu was rich and flavoursome to end the meal. I noticed the column next to my table had several flies and found it disturbing, as I had to make sure they did not get close to my food.”

“I know that 5 star across the board reviews are sometimes a little lazy, but our experience tonight really was a truly 5 star experience. Our host (Georgi?) was excellent. A perfect example of service and attentiveness. He made sure we felt comfortable with the menu, paced out the meal perfectly - to the point that the 2 1/2 hours spent there felt like it flew by, and even took our photo for us when he noticed us taking a selfie. The food was one of the best examples of Japanese cuisine we have tasted, including us having been to Japan. We ordered: Popcorn Shrimp: The batter tasted fantastic and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. The dip went very well. Chutoro, Otoro and Salmon Nigiri: The salmon was melt in your mouth as expected, the medium Chutoro had fantastic flavour and was very delicate and the Otoro (fatty tuna) was bursting with flavour. tsukune skewer: This was generously portioned for the price and had a perfectly light char to it, alongside being soft and delicate. It tasted fantastic. A5 Wagyu: I had this cooked medium, and was actually my first time trying A5 wagyu. Needless to say, this was the best steak I have ever tasted, the tenderness of the meat was incredible and the flavour of the meat is honestly unparalleled. It was cooked to perfection, the veg with it was seasoned excellently. Georgi offered me a free miso soup whilst waiting for the meal which was a nice bonus. Chefs sushi bowl: This was a great meal, offcuts of salmon, tuna and cod? with avocado, edamame sitting on a bed of rice. Very good value. Came with miso soup - very deep and umami flavour. would recommend. Satsumaimo and yuzu butter rice: These sides with the meal were very tasty - particularly the yuzu butter rice. The flavoured butter went really well with the rice, we had never tried this before. Must try to recreate at home. Sesame and yuzu tart, and matcha tiramisu: Both desserts were great, the tiramisu won the battle for the best but i would get both again either way. Drinks: Guju Bramble cocktail and Gina Cocktail - both fantastic and well balanced. Second round: Ume no Yado sake based plum wine and a plum wine, green tea, prosecco and soda water cocktail: The plum wine definitely went down a treat with this round, great complex and interesting flavours. The atmosphere was really well balanced. Not too loud, not too rigid. You felt like you could talk at normal volume without feeling like you couldn’t raise your voice a little with a laugh or comment on the great food. We were sat at the pass where 3 chefs were making the sushi, it was great theatre to watch professionals do what they do well, whilst getting to eat the meals made in front of us. Overall, including a 12.5% service charge, the meal came to £208. I think this is very, very reasonably priced for what you get and I will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to everyone I get the chance to. Thankyou to all the staff working tonight, you all made our night very special!”
