About Hoghton Arms

Hoghton Arms is a pub on Blackburn Road in Chorley, serving cask ales alongside a restaurant menu. The chefs cook rotisserie chicken in front of diners, so guests can watch the dish being prepared. Customer Review Summary

Diners most often return for the food, with triple cooked chips, the mixed grill and "the best pub pie" named as highlights, alongside a cheese and bacon burger and an Irish coffee one reviewer called a work of art. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and helpful, and dogs are given water bowls and biscuits. Complaints centre on value and detail. One reviewer found the posh fish finger sandwich to be a baguette with two goujons and some lettuce, nothing posh for the money, and another found the bacon chop tasty but extremely tough. Others call the beers expensive with few cask ales, describe the outdoor furniture as tired, mention chipped cups for tea and coffee, and say staff could check on drinks more often. On one busy walk-in day, three front of house staff were run off their feet. One family celebrating a grandmother's birthday found a card waiting on the table and were allowed to order from the midweek menu instead of the Sunday one.

“I love coming here, as a family we come a lot but I also go with my girlfriend for date evenings. Big thanks to Lola and everyone else who served us today (the Irish coffee was a work of art)”

“Overall a pleasant visit with nice attentive staff and good food. Just a couple of things to bring up. Would be good to have a couple of nice cask ales to choose from and at a reasonable price, the beers on offer where quite expensive. Also some of the outdoor furniture is looking and feeling very tired.”

“The place was very busy and it transpired that the customers , like us , were walk ins. The three front of house staff were run off their feet , providing bar service , kitchen to table service and table to kitchen service with used plates and utensils. I had the bacon chop from the main menus. It was tasty but extremely tough to eat. The staff themselves were 110% efficient, very hard working , helpful and very polite .”

“Visited for my Grandmas Birthday. There was a Birthday card waiting on the table as we’d informed them prior of the celebrations which I thought was a lovely touch. Food great, they accommodated us by allowing us to order off the midweek menu rather than the Sunday one which was really kind. Food was good, staff were lovely and overall ambiance was welcoming.”

“Got the posh fish finger sandwich. This was basically a baguette with two fish goujons across the top of it and some lettuce thrown on. Must have cost about 1 pound to make but they charged £10.49 absolutely nothing posh about it shocking in all honesty. To top it of a pint of Pepsi max is £4.10. Staff were friendly and helpful. Wouldn't return here would chose to spend my hard earned money elsewhere.”

Highlights

“The Hoghton Arms in Withnell is a gorgeous country pub with a restaurant menu and well-kept cask ales. Eat out in Chorley or Blackburn with friends and family in a beautiful old building that has been sympathetically renovated. Smart contemporary interiors and charming period features sit happily alongside each other. Dine alfresco in the large beer garden in summer or spend winter afternoons or evenings enjoying good food by a real log fire. We welcome families. The children’s menu has classics like chicken dinner, fun modern meals and sweet things. Watch as our chefs cook rotisserie chicken right in front of your eyes; farm-assured and expertly seasoned, our chickens are tender, flavoursome and have beautifully crisp skin. Rotisserie c...”
