About Hare & Hounds
Hare & Hounds is a dog-friendly pub at 129 Bolton Rd in Chorley, on the doorstep of walks around the three reservoirs. The kitchen cooks traditional German and English food, with schnitzel on the menu next to a homemade cheese and onion pie. Waffles with ice cream and biscotti sauce cover dessert. Many walks start right outside the door, so walkers and their dogs can set off from the pub and return to it. The pub is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Traditional German food draws the most praise, with the schnitzel and homemade cheese and onion pie named among the favourites. Diners also single out a vegetarian breakfast, pan fried potato slices with crispy bacon and fried eggs, and waffles with ice cream and biscotti sauce. Reviewers describe friendly staff and owners, a welcome for dogs and children, and walks from the doorstep. One family says the pub hosted a christening for over 50 guests, with vegetarian and gluten free options and fresh bread with homemade soup. The criticisms are specific. One reviewer waited 24 minutes for cheesy chips that arrived pale and bland with rubbery cheese, alongside weak, lukewarm coffee. Another found the portions for three meals barely a snack, and a third says menu prices run higher than on the website, schnitzel included. One mentions a smell of wet dog. The chippy takeaway gets the closing praise: battered fish that falls apart, home cooked chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce.

“A great little pub that I use frequently after walks. Nice staff and owner, decent priced drinks too. The location is wonderful”

“Stopped by after a day trip with the kids. Food was ok, service was nice. However the prices are not as advertised on their website. Shnitzel was closer to 15£ and not 10£, all other dishes around 5£ more than on the website menu. Kids meals are 7.50£ and not 5£. All in all a nice local pub but prices need adjustment on the website. Parking right outside, put your reg when you come in.”

“The Hare and Hounds hosted my nephew’s christening Sunday lunch time on May bank holiday weekend. Over 50 guests and the day couldn’t have been better. Everyone left saying the same thing, that the food was outstanding, so many things to choose from and every single one was delicious. Catered to vegetarians and gluten free guests without any problems at all. Nothing was too much trouble for us all, even baking fresh and amazing bread to have with the lovely homemade soup. Again thank you all so much and if anyone is thinking about a celebration soon, birthdays, christenings, retirement do’s you will not be disappointment if you book the Hare & Hounds, it was excellent! It’s a great pub that I highly recommend for food, drinks and events and all the staff are wonderful.”

“Busy with walkers early afternoon. Dog and child friendly. Lovely country venue. Traditional German and English food. We were a party of 4 four. Each person enjoyed 😉 their meal. Good selection of drinks, beers and wine. Non-alcoholic drinks available. Service was good. Homemade cheese and onion pie was a winner and seems a local favourite as we enjoyed the last portion.”

“Absolutely love this place, one of the best vegetarian breakfasts around! And love their cheese and onion pie. I don't eat fish but everyone who has it says it is absolutely delicious and Freshly cooked.”
