About The Bridge House

The Bridge House is a pub on Borough Parade in Chippenham, built on the river bank across several levels. Riverside decking holds tables that overlook the water, and the inside has separate upstairs and downstairs seating areas. The food follows the usual Wetherspoons menu. Breakfast includes Eggs Benedict and a Miners Benedict made with black pudding. The bar pours local ales, among them a green beer from the Stonehenge area. A coffee machine downstairs serves bottomless coffee.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the riverside decking, where tables overlook the water, calling it a brilliant spot and a great touch. The usual Wetherspoon menu draws a more muted ok, though breakfast earns praise: one couple enjoyed Miners Benedict with black pudding and bottomless coffee that arrived within minutes. Complaints centre on food and upkeep. One family reports a cold, soggy main course and being moved upstairs for pudding, another diner describes pale bacon, shell in the fried eggs and a scalding plate, and others mention cluttered tables and sticky cups. Staff are called friendly, yet one reviewer had to chase a server for sauce. One reviewer who ordered through the QR code says payment was taken twice and was still waiting for it to be sorted after several calls.

“The mister and I finally decided to come and try a Wetherspoon breakfast, as trying to find somewhere that did Eggs Benedict, that’s wasn’t priced three times more than it should be was finding difficult, but we were very happy with what we given. I ordered the Miners Benedict, the standard EB but with some black pudding and I also had a cheeky sausage. The mister ordered the standard EB with a cheeky sausage also. The food arrived quite quickly but mind you, it was just after 9am and the cups for the bottomless coffee arrived within minutes. We both very much enjoyed it and the Mr’s only complaint was that the egg could have been runnier. Otherwise it was a great breakfast and at a really good price too.”

“I ordered through the QR code and the confirmation didn't come through. I spoke to the staff who said that the pending amount should disappear on its own and I had to order and pay for it separately. The pending didn't disappear and so I paid twice! A £35 meal now became £70! Had to call a few times before someone answered and now waiting for them to sort it out. The cups were dirty and sticky. Only one coffee machine available downstairs and none upstairs. Hot chocolate you have to make it yourself with a sachet; milk provided in the machine wasn't hot.”

“Awful experience today! Firstly the breakfast seemed to take forever, it wasn't even that busy! Plate was blatantly sat on a hot plate and no warning of how hot it was. Burnt fingers. Bacon was so pale it was barely cooked. Fried eggs with pieces of shell in it. Baked beans in a small pot, freezing cold ??!!! To make it worse, 9am and the usual drunks decided to join me in a quiet corner because that's where they sit most days! Couldn't wait to get out after I salvaged some of the meal!”

“Typical Spoons. Food and drinks were fine. Like all Spoons, they just NEVER clear the tables quick enough and wipe them clean. If I was the manager, I would tell my staff NEVER to come back to the bar area with empty hands, just grab a few plates and glasses as they walk past all the cluttered tables. On this visit, I only saw this being done when the manager appeared (he looked like the manager 😀).”

“The normal wethers, but you can sit by the river and enjoy the sun. Yes it's green beer, from Stonehenge area, it's ok.”
