About Society Café
Society Café is an independent, family-owned speciality coffee shop in Cheltenham, on Ormond Pl, with hand-painted pictures in its windows and interior that change with the seasons. The house espresso is roasted by Origin Coffee, and guest espressos are on offer alongside it, with free tastings. Whole beans are sold and ground on request, and the shop also sells hand grinders, aeropresses and V60s for brewing at home. Cakes and muffins come from local bakeries, including banana bread and white chocolate flapjacks, with vegan and gluten-free options. Cakes without gluten are kept clearly separate from the rest of the display. Loose leaf teas, smoothies and matcha round out the drinks. The space has different seating areas, communal seating and some tables labelled laptop-free. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to Society for the speciality coffee, with the short black, cappuccino, house blend and guest espressos all named, and several call it the best coffee in Cheltenham. Cakes come close behind, with banana bread, white chocolate flapjacks and a Victorian Sponge mentioned, along with vegan and gluten free options that one reviewer says are kept clearly separate in the display. Smoothies and matcha also draw praise, including a special mix with flaxseed and berries. Staff are described as friendly and welcoming, and one barista offered suggestions and free tastings. Diners also like the relaxed music, the spacious seating areas, and laptop-free tables. The one recurring complaint is small: a regular wishes the cafe opened earlier on Saturdays and Sundays. One reviewer finds the Victorian Sponge very sweet, though flavourful. Reviewers also mention hand-painted pictures in the windows that change with the seasons, and the coffee art that makes one regular smile on each visit.

“This is my first time here and had one of the best smoothies I have ever had in town. I would definitely come again to try the coffee here.”

“One of my favourite places in Cheltenham for coffee and cake. There is always a great range of cakes available, with plenty of choice, and I really appreciate the way the non-gluten-containing cakes are kept clearly separate from the rest of the display. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference. The coffee is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the team are always friendly. Highly recommended.”

“Society is in my opinion the best coffee shop in Cheltenham. Offering a wide selection of speciality coffees. The staff are really friendly, a relaxed atmosphere with chilled music, matched with the best speciality coffee in town. The short black is a great start to the day! The cakes are amazing too banana bread and white chocolate flapjacks are just the best. Always look forward to a trip to Society, great staff, great coffee!”

“I am fastidious about my coffee. I think can safely say that I have tried every coffee offering in Cheltenham! I moved here nearly a year ago and I settled into Society Coffee as soon as my experimental period ended - initially because of the quality of the coffee - which is soooo good. I am there, just about every day (wish you opened earlier on a Sat and Sun - that extra hour or so to wait can be very hard!) and the staff are always lovely and the vibe is great - music en pointe. Love it here. (and the cakes are gorgeous too - too gorgeous!) Well done team SC”

“Independent, family owned speciality coffee shops. Our house espresso is roasted by Origin Coffee roasters and we have guest coffees from farms and roasters all over the world. We also serve amazing loose leaf teas, single origin hot chocolates, locally sourced cakes and pastries and a carefully chosen range of soft drinks. We make our own cold brew on site when the weather is warm. We have put a huge amount of love and care into creating a beautiful space for you to come and enjoy beautiful coffee. A place that we would want to hang out in ourselves. We hope you are able to visit and that you enjoy the experience.”
