About Taz Restaurant
Taz Restaurant serves Turkish and Mediterranean food on Main Rd in Rettendon, Chelmsford. The menu pairs a mixed seafood grill, octopus and scallops with kleftiko and lamb beyti. Mixed grills and shish kebabs cover the grilled side, and the grilled mains come without rice or bulgur pilav, so rice is ordered separately as a side. A hot sharing starter platter is also on the menu, and the bar mixes cocktails and mocktails. Both lunch and dinner are served. The team offers complimentary drinks or desserts for birthdays and anniversaries.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often come to Taz for celebrations, including birthdays, an anniversary and a family wedding lunch, and describe attentive, friendly service with personal touches such as complimentary cocktails, drinks on the house, an anniversary dessert and non-alcoholic shots for the children. On the food, reviewers single out the mixed seafood grill, tender charred octopus and seared scallops. Close behind are the hot sharing starter platter of falafel, halloumi and prawns, the kleftiko, steak cut chips and the cocktails. Several also mention the stunning views. The most repeated complaint is rice. Two reviewers were surprised that grilled mains and kebabs arrived without rice or bulgur pilav and wished this had been explained when ordering. Others found the chicken wings served whole and too hot to handle, a wrapped lamb beyti whose tomato sauce was so garlicky it hid the meat, and a mixed grill with no rib and too few chops. One table was never offered a drink after the first round. At one birthday table, the candle-topped dessert went to the wrong person, which got a laugh.

“This restaurant is set in a lovely location, with absolutely stunning surrounding views. The restaurant itself is beautifully laid out, and the décor is extremely stylish and comfortable—you genuinely feel like you're dining in a high-end London restaurant. The service was absolutely exceptional. I honestly couldn't fault it at all. The staff were very attentive, polite, and professional throughout. Top-notch service from start to finish. The food was good overall. My only criticism would be the chicken wings. I think they should be cut in half before being served. I know they may look better presented whole, but when they arrive piping hot, they're difficult to eat because you have to break them apart yourself. By the time they've cooled enough to handle, you're left waiting to enjoy them. Whenever I've ordered chicken wings at other Turkish restaurants, they've always been cut in half, which makes them much easier to eat. Also, if you’re ordering rice one portion is more than enough to share between two people. Other than that, I really can't fault this place. It's a fantastic restaurant with a great atmosphere, excellent service, and a beautiful setting. I'd definitely recommend it.”

“We visited Taz to celebrate my sister-in-law's 40th, and it was honestly one of the best dining experiences we've had. A huge thank you to our server, Elle, who was absolutely amazing from start to finish. She was so attentive, friendly and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great evening. It honestly felt like she could read our minds—before we even had to ask for anything, she was already there making sure we had everything we needed. We were a family group with four children, and Elle was incredible with them too. She made such a fuss of them, gave them lollies as we were leaving, and even brought them fun non-alcoholic shots so they could join in the celebrations, while the adults enjoyed complimentary shots too. It was such a thoughtful touch and made everyone feel included. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service was second to none. Although my sister-in-law had been before, it was a first visit for the rest of us, and we were all so impressed. Elle is a real credit to Taz and made my sister in laws 40th celebration one we'll never forget. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for such a fantastic evening!”

“I had the pleasure of celebrating an intimate family wedding lunch at Taz Restaurant. They did an amazing job catering just under 20 people. The seating layout was even better than we had planned, allowing us to easily interact and enjoy the occasion together. A huge thank you to Elise (I hope I've spelled your name correctly), who was incredibly patient and accommodating throughout. Nothing was too much trouble for her. It genuinely felt like if we'd asked for gold, she would deliver. Her attention to detail and friendly attitude made the day even more special. A big thank you as well to the manager, the chefs, and the rest of the team. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. I couldn't recommend Taz Restaurant more highly, whether you're looking for a casual meal or a special celebration.”

“We had the most phenomenal meal here yesterday. 5 of us booked for a birthday treat. Quality of food was honestly so amazing. We were offered drinks initially and they came promptly, beautiful and tasted amazing (both cocktail and mocktails) however one let down was we were never offered a drink after that. We ordered the hot sharing starter platter and everything was perfect, even the falafel which I'm not usually a fan of. The Halloumi was cooked perfectly and was still very soft, the prawns were well coated and cooked perfectly. For mains we ordered mixed grills and a lamb shish and chicken shish for my child which they allowed us to order as a half portion. All the food tasted phenomenal and beautifully cooked. It was our mistake, but we were surprised by not having rice or bulgur pilav with our grilled mains, I guess it was our assumption as that's how it's usually served at similar restaurants. I would liked to have had this highlighted to us at time of ordering and asked if we wanted to order any as a side. When we re read the menu we then noted it didn't mention it so it's clearly just how it's served and our mistake. I couldn't decide between lamb chops and ribs grill or mixed grill, I went for the mixed grill in the end. It would have been an amazing touch to have had at least one rib in the mixed grill or at least 2 chops. The restaurant noted we were there for a birthday so when the deserts came out they very kindly decorated one of the desert plates with a happy birthday and a candle which was such a nice gesture. Wasn't a problem but very hilarious that they got they decorated the incorrect desert so the birthday desert went to the wrong person. Its all good though! it made us laugh, and we really appreciate the gesture, but perhaps ask who's birthday it is first incase it upsets someone. All in all an amazing experience and we will definitely be back again.”
