About The Old Bank
The Old Bank is a gastropub on Fisher St in Carlisle, with a "naughty corner" built into its quirky decor. The menu includes afternoon tea, with a "Race Around Europe" version that gives the room its own theme. Roasts arrive with a Yorkshire pudding and a side plate, served with beef or lamb. Vegetarians can order a veggie burger. The kitchen cooks food in-house, and the bar pours cocktails and mocktails alongside craft ales and lagers.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most mentions, with diners describing generous portions of turkey and lamb with Yorkshire pudding, beef so tender it melted, and a chicken parfait starter. Sticky toffee pudding comes up repeatedly as the way to finish, alongside a cheesecake, cookie dough and a mini egg dessert. Close behind is the afternoon tea, where one reviewer singles out the fish and chips and a tiramisu style scone, and another had to take a doggy bag home. Cocktails and mocktails earn praise, including alcohol free versions. Reviewers call the decor quirky, mention a naughty corner, and describe friendly, polite staff and a veggie burger so tall it was hard to bite. The one complaint is the deposit taken for online afternoon tea booking: one reviewer had to ask twice to get it back and noted it could easily have been forgotten. Birthdays and anniversaries recur, including one family who said the team made a mother's 80th birthday extra special after arrangements made in advance.

“Absolutely wonderful restaurant. It was my mums 80th birthday and we came up to Carlisle on the train from Bradford. I’d prior arranged everything before but the team couldn’t do enough for me to make it extra special. Food was exceptional. Plenty of it and tasted amazing. Thank you to all of the staff there.”

“Just had a wonderful meal of Yorkshire pudding and some side plates. Beef was so tender it literally melted away. Oh and the sticky toffee pudding! The staff service for a busy place was amazing and helpful. You must try this place 😊 Yes I was back again in May 2026 This time for Sunday Lunchtime. Lamb and Yorkshire Pudding with side plate. Very rich and filling, ( I think you can ask for a smaller portion). To finish off with a Cheese cake. Pleasant seating and tables. Nice polite service from staff. I'll be back to sample more delicious foods. Thank you again 🙂”

“I have been to The Old Bank several times and the service and food is always exceptional. Their Sunday roast is one of the best in Carlisle. We visited on Easter Sunday and I had the chicken parfait to start followed by the turkey and it was exceptional. Unfortunately I couldn’t fit desert in as the portions are very generous, however I tried my friend’s mini egg desert and it was outstanding. Matt and Harry always go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and look after you. Would always recommend ☺️”
