About Pipasha Restaurant

Pipasha Restaurant is a family-run Indian restaurant at 529C Newmarket Rd in Cambridge. It has served diners since 1992, and many guests have kept coming back across the decades. The menu includes biryani, with chilli garlic naan on the bread side and homemade kulfi for dessert. Vegan options sit on the menu alongside the meat and fish dishes, so a mixed table can order from one list. The kitchen also takes requests, such as a curry made spicier than usual. The restaurant is open daily, evenings only.

Customer Review Summary

Diners come for the curries and tandoori dishes, praising the biriyani, the lamb and fish curries, the tandoori chicken and the Shakooti chicken for their flavour. Close behind are the sides and drinks: chilli garlic naan, fresh naan breads, mango lassi, a salty lassi and homemade kulfi, plus starters one reviewer calls banging. Vegan options also earn a mention. Staff are described repeatedly as friendly and welcoming, and several note how they treat regulars. One reviewer says the kitchen cooked a dish that was not on the menu, and another calls it a proper old school Indian restaurant. Complaints are few. One reviewer finds the room very hot, crowded and noisy in the evening, and another finds the mains rather heavy with a bit of fat and oil, though a return visit was described as not too greasy. One waiter agreed to make a curry spicier than usual, and a group arriving just before closing was still seated and served.

“Came here for a last minute Indian as it was near our hotel for a work event, they were just about to close but let us sit and eat anyway and we had the BEST food I have ever eaten, such amazing attentive service and the taste was incredible. I would drive to two hours to come back just for this. Thanks so much guys you are a credit!”

“First time dining at Pipasha Restaurant and honestly, what an experience. From the moment we walked in, the staff and the owners made us feel so welcome — genuine, warm hospitality that you don’t come across often. A special mention to the owner Modu Miah, who truly made the night unforgettable. He prepared six fantastic dishes for us, each one full of flavour and cooked to perfection. You could tell there was real care and passion behind every plate. Not a single dish disappointed — we loved every single bite. If this was our first visit, it definitely won’t be the last. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food and even better people.”

“I had the best curry I had in my life, let alone in Cambridge. The salty lassi tasted great. The waiter accomododated my request of having a "spicier than usual" curry, and it was fantastic. The meat in the curry was delicious and the sauce thick and tasty. The homemade kulfi was the best I had. I will definitely be back.”
