About Namaste Village Cambridge

Namaste Village Cambridge is an Indian vegetarian restaurant in Cambridge, at 45-47 Castle St. The kitchen cooks dosas, and a monthly dosa master class lets guests learn the dish rather than only order it. The menu is entirely vegetarian, with Indian Afternoon Tea and Satvik and Jain meals for diners who follow those food traditions. Vegan options are available across the menu. Starters include spinach chaat, and the mains run from paneer tikka and mushroom kadai to saag aloo, with garlic butter naan on the bread list. Reservations are required. A service charge is added to the bill.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the spinach chaat, praised alongside the vegetable biryani, surti undhiya, beetroot kebab, onion bhajji and samosas, with mushroom kadai and Mughlai veg korma called delicious. Others mention tasty dosas and a brownie with vanilla ice cream. Reviewers credit the spice levels for being right without being too hot or oily, and a vegan family notes that dishes come with vegan alternatives. The main complaint is service. Reviewers describe slow ordering, water that needed reminders, and one server who promised to check on a bland paneer tikka and never came back. One reviewer thought the breads could be better and found bread and curries pricey. One group did not realise the menu was fully vegetarian until after being seated, then felt a service charge on two drinks was unwarranted. A noisy party made conversation difficult for one table, and that reviewer suggests asking for a quiet table. Many still describe friendly staff, including servers who helped one birthday group with the cake and took photos for them.

“We had a lovely time celebrating my birthday at Namaste Village! The food was delicious, and the service was great. A special thanks to Gopal and Kavin, who were really friendly and helpful. They helped us with the birthday cake and took some lovely pictures for us. Really appreciated their kindness and hospitality. Would definitely recommend! 😊”

“Absolutely amazing place! Beautiful, spacious, and welcoming, with fantastic service. The staff are incredibly friendly and professional. As a vegetarian and vegan restaurant, it’s easily the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to. I’ll definitely be coming back again and again. Thank you for everything!”

“We didn't realise it was just vegetarian, we thought it was a mix. I totally get the concept, cause if you don't eat meat, then you probably wouldn't chose to sit next to someone who is eating meat, so it's perfect for those choosing that lifestyle but not for us. Service was a little slow, we got seated and had to wait to order our drinks and poppadoms... then we realised the menu was vegetarian and that was an oversight on our side. We had to wait for the staff to eventually bring our drinks over to explain it wasn't for us. They was very understanding and kind to us, about our mix up. The 2 cobra's with service charge cost just shy of £15; I don't know how this fairs up with local charges; was a little shocked to be charged for service, considering there wasn't really any... they brought 2 drinks over and then we explained we hadn't realised; there was even an Indian couple with a child next to us; who had arrived before us but hadn't ordered and didn't also realise it was a vegetarian only establishment and left, ordering nothing. My advise to the owner is, that this is a wonderful idea but your server's should let people know that you are solely a vegetarian restaurant, prior to seating people. We do not know the area, so would have been useful to know, as we had a little one and had to find an alternative. The atmosphere was nice and authentic. Just not for us.”

“Came to Cambridge for the wedding and had a lovely dinner at Namaste Village. Dosas were tasty and I found they also do dosa master class every months (in London too, so we don’t need to travel back to Cambridge). Diya looked after us and was very sweet and caring. If we’ll be back to Cambridge, this will be a great place to return to.”

“I am visiting my daughters, both of them in UK. I have been to Namaste Village twice, the latest being today. We were 5 of us. Me , my daughters and 2 nieces. We ordered Starters, Palak chaat, Beet root kebab and onion bhajji. All were very tasty and excellent. Main course consisted of garlic butter naan and veg butter masala and saag aloo. It was just great with the right amount of spice and not at all oily. To top it all we had brownie with vanilla ice cream which was superb. I had a high expectation as i am from India and I say this honestly that Namaste Village is doing justice to Indian food. Service here is top notch and will definitely like to mention that both the times we were taken care of by Sanjana. She is a remarkable girl, very patient, with a cheerful smile and remembers the orders to the tee. Excellent service provided by her. Thank you for giving us a wonderful experience.”
