About Jade Fountain
At 42-46 High St in Cambridge, Jade Fountain is a Chinese restaurant serving Cantonese cooking from a menu of 214 dishes. Its taster menu covers most of that list in smaller portions, which lets a table sample widely in one meal. The chef and owner also visit tables to recommend dishes, so diners can ask what to order from the person running the kitchen. Starters and mains include Honey Glazed Barbecue Spare Ribs, crispy duck and pancakes, and crab and sweetcorn soup. Dishes are cooked to order, and the team serves at the table.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the taster menu, described as great and abundant, with slightly smaller portions of much of the menu and food cooked to order. Close behind is freshness: reviewers call the dishes fresh, tasty and less oily than a typical Chinese meal. Named dishes include crispy duck and pancakes, crab and sweetcorn soup, chicken in black bean sauce, and sea bass with ginger and spring onion, which one diner calls outstanding. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive, and several regulars mention long-standing loyalty, including one weekly habit that began with a takeaway. The one critical review concerns a takeaway order. The collection total exceeded what the window menu added up to, staff declined to show the bill, and they said prices had risen without the menu being updated. The owner replied that prices had increased, which the reviewer disputed, and the reviewer found the food ok. One couple's meal ended with the chef coming out to their table.

“If I could, I would give 10 stars! My partner and I ordered a takeaway once, and the owner, Eric, recommended that we come back to dine in. We immediately warmed up to him, as he's just a fun and genuinely good guy who loves to make people happy through his food. Once at home, we were so impressed with the meal that we decided we had to go back and eat in! Well, we've had food from here once a week since that first takeaway, and we've made it a weekly tradition! Not your average Chinese restaurant, this is genuine fresh food and great cuisine. It is incredibly tasty and beautifully cooked. We've tried so many dishes so far, and we've learned that any recommendation from Eric is a good one... you're never disappointed! A warm thank you also to Bobo and all the staff. The service is impeccable, and everyone is kind and attentive. Seriously, it's the BEST Chinese restaurant around! See you soon, Lucilla and Kirk.”

“My wife and I visited Jade Fountain yesterday while we were in Cambridge from London, and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip. The service was warm, attentive and genuinely friendly from the moment we arrived. We both have very high standards when it comes to Cantonese food - my mum is originally from Hong Kong and cooks excellent Chinese food at home, so we’re not easily impressed. Jade Fountain exceeded our expectations. We started with the crispy duck and pancakes and the crab and sweetcorn soup, both of which were excellent. For our mains we had the sea bass with ginger and spring onion, chicken in black bean sauce, fried noodles with bean sprouts and egg fried rice. Every dish was beautifully cooked, full of flavour and tasted wonderfully fresh. The sea bass, in particular, was outstanding. A lovely touch was when Eric, the chef, came out to speak with us at the end of the meal. It’s always great to meet the person behind such fantastic food, and it made the experience feel even more personal. If you’re looking for authentic, high-quality Cantonese cuisine with exceptional hospitality, I couldn’t recommend Jade Fountain more highly. A meal we’ll remember for a long time, and we’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Cambridge.”

“It’s probably 10 years since we last ate here, and the food was as good as we remember it. Great taster menu, the staff are friendly, and the table service was excellent. Superb value for money and will definitely go again.”

“Phoned in a takeaway order. We priced it up from the menu and it was £46.30 When we arrived to collect we were told £49.30 I asked to see the bill showing our order and they refused to let me see it. I asked for a new menu from the ones on display and the staff member became very defensive and said “we have a price increase, but the menu prices have not been updated”. She looked like she was lying. They basically just over charged us and then when we caught them out they tried to lie their way out of it. There is a massive priced takeaway Menu in the window and I checked the prices on that and it added to £46.30. So thanks for ripping us off Jade Fountain. Shame on you. The food was ok. Nothing to get excited about, but not bad. Edit: The owner has responded stating that they have increased their prices on their menu due to supply chain price increases. THEY HAVE NOT ! The menu prices added up to £46.30 for the dishes we ordered. WE WERE OVERCHARGED. I have no issue at all with paying the advertised price for anything. If this business has had to put their prices up that’s fine. My issue is that this business has chosen to increase the prices without showing those new, higher prices on their price list (the menu in this case). That is bad business practice and needs to be called out.”
