About Yim Wah Express
Yim Wah Express is an independent, family-run Chinese restaurant at 2-4 Lensfield Rd in Cambridge, cooking in the Canton and Hong Kong style. Roast duck and cha siu are roasted in view through the kitchen window, and the two are served alongside each other. The menu is extensive, and it includes fried rice dishes, among them a Thai spicy version and one made with large prawns. Set menus are written for two, with one built around shredded duck and another around lamb, and the portions on them are large. The restaurant serves Monday to Saturday, daytime only, and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Roast duck and roast pork anchor the praise, with reviewers calling the duck crispy and the pork juicy and tender. Char siu comes close behind, described as crispy outside with spot-on flavour and a must-have on every visit. Others single out Thai spicy fried rice, sizzling chicken with ginger and spring onions, Mapo tofu and the mixed veg platter, and one reviewer says some dishes bring the taste of Hong Kong. Service is repeatedly called friendly, and one reviewer describes being seated right away on an early Saturday. The caveats are about value and consistency. One reviewer finds the prices high and the portions small, and notes a 10% service charge added to the bill, while another describes the set menus as an enormous amount of food. The barbecue pork was not tasty to one diner, and another found the beef with fried rice noodles and the radish cake too oily, with the wonton soup nothing special. One reviewer says they have become a regular after a few years of visits.

“Lovely food, friendly unhurried service. Extensive menu so the four of us opted for two set menus for two, one with shredded duck (B) and the other lamb (A) . An enormous amount of food! So beware lovely but plentiful! So the two set menus were £28 and £33 per person!”

“Yim Wah Cambridge is the best Chinese restaurant in Britain! This is an independent family run restaurant and all of the staff members are very friendly, polite, courteous and professional at all times. It is obvious that the restaurant cares deeply about authentic flavours and truly delicious Chinese cuisine. They make truly amazing crispy duck exactly as it should be, which you can see cooking through the kitchen window. The chef’s often have a friendly smile as they are cooking the food too. The atmosphere is great! It is very clean and modern inside and I love the food so much that I have become a regular here in the past few years. 10 out of 10.”

“Most authentic Chinese food with Canton/Hong Kong style. Their roast duck and pork are excellent. Sometimes other dishes have so great Hong Kong taste that could make you feel like those days you miss back home.”

“It’s good but I think price is too high and portion is quite small. The roasted pork is good but the barbecue pork is not tasty. Also they add a 10% service charge on top of the total bill.”

“Every time I go to Cambridge, I always make sure to visit this place—and it never disappoints. The food and service are always excellent. The char siu is a must-have every time 👍🏻”
