About The Castle Inn
The Castle Inn is a pub in Cambridge, on Castle St, established in the 1740s and the only Adnams pub in the city. It is split across two levels, with a large beer garden outside and multiple seating areas inside, including large tables on the second floor for groups. The drinks list runs to a large selection of ales, beers and ciders, with real ale from Adnams. In the kitchen, the Castle Burger, fish and chips and a roast with a variety of veg and Yorkshire pudding are on the menu. Orders are placed at the counter or through a website. The pub is independently run by the same team behind The Portland Arms and The Alex, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Black Rock Grill steaks, with one praising a rump that tasted like a fillet and the choice of salad or fries as a side. Steak with pomme frites, the classic and Castle burgers, loaded fries and a Sunday roast with plenty of veg, a good Yorkie and potatoes come up close behind. Several mention a wide beer range, including Adnams ales, along with warm pork scratchings, a surprisingly big beer garden and a spacious upstairs. One group praised a bartender who gave people time to order for themselves. The main complaint is food service and consistency. One reviewer was told the kitchen had closed minutes before the stated closing time and called it a second bad ordering experience there. Another found the fish and chips far too salty to finish, and one called the burger and fries median. A few felt prices were slightly high, while others found them reasonable, and one noted the website ordering lacks Google Pay. One reviewer found a Saturday afternoon too quiet for a pub, and another reported a Wednesday burger deal.

“Lovely decor, very wide selection of ales, other beers, ciders and other liquor. Good value too. Warm pork scratchings are an uncommon treat, bags of crisps available in many flavours. Toilets in good condition, beer garden is surprisingly big. Special burger menu deals available on Wednesdays at present.”

“Incredibly poor service - two of us waiting at the bar at 8.55pm just before kitchen closed at 9. I let the other person order first, and they got a long food order in. But after that I was told the kitchen had closed. Surely you find a way to accommodate but the guy behind the bar couldn’t care less. Second bad experience trying to order food in here Edit: The previous experience was similar. However thank you for your reply, have amended the overall rating.”
