About Byron's Bear
Byron's Bear is a pub on the River Cam at 3 Thompsons Ln in Cambridge, where boat trips depart from the front of the building and punting boats pass by on the water. The kitchen serves simple pub food, including a Sunday roast with pork and a very large Yorkshire pudding, fish and chips, and a smashed burger. At the bar, the team pours Guinness, local real ale, cocktails and wine. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly staff are the most repeated draw at this riverside pub, described as smiling, efficient and welcoming, with one server praised for quick service. Reviewers pair that with the setting: outdoor seating by the Cam where punting boats pass, and a garden one group used before a boat trip leaving from the front of the pub. Food earns plenty of praise too. Diners single out the smashed burger, scampi, fish and chips, the sharing fish platter, the hummus with pita, and a Sunday roast with an oversized Yorkshire pudding. Close behind, a few call the pub pricey for the location, and the food draws the sharpest complaints. One reviewer found the hummus far too vinegary and the salt and pepper squid just four pieces, while a group of nine Sunday roast diners said none rated the food highly and would return only for drinks.

“We went was a large group for Sunday Roast. The staff were fab, the location was wonderful, the pub in general was great. However from the 9 of us eating, not one rated the food high. Will defiantly return for drinks, but would think twice about the food ☹”

“Pricey but to be said about the location it should be expected. Lovely staff and warm atmosphere. Excellent location. Management (understandably) didn't seem keen on our motorcycles but we wanted to feed back that everyone that came past or out of the pub absolutely loved them and stopped to check them out and have a conversation. We understand their constraints regarding noise and parking but were still welcomed for a brief drink stop anyway. Thank you for having us.”

“Cambridge Pub Didn't know this place until looking for pubs in the Google map. It's more expensive than the green king pub. But everything tasted good, with generous portions. Good quality food ingredients. The view outside is stunning. Inside was clean and cosy. The toilets were clean. Service was quick.”

“The food here is typically priced around £15-20 but does not disappoint. Firstly the portions are so filling and the scampi was delicious. The photo also shows the Caesar salad and the Sunday roast with pork. I was particularly impressed with the Yorkshire pudding it was the biggest I’ve ever seen. The staff were also nice and the range of seating outside made it a very pleasant place for a nice meal.”

“A must-visit when you're in Cambridge is Byron's Bear. It has a charming, traditional British pub atmosphere with excellent food and friendly service. We enjoyed the hummus with pita, along with a few drinks, and everything was great. The welcoming ambiance made the experience even better. One of the highlights is the outdoor seating by the river, where you can relax and watch the punting boats go by. A lovely spot to enjoy good food, drinks, and the classic Cambridge atmosphere.”
