Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips is the main draw for reviewers, who describe the fish as fresh and made to order, and one calls the haddock and chips with tartar sauce the most authentic British version they have had. Beer battered cod also gets a mention. Diners like choosing from three batters and building a plate from fish or pie, a potato, a side and a sauce. Close behind is the gluten free cooking. A vegan coeliac diner found everything delicious and safe, and another says the fish and chips is entirely gluten free. Also praised are the scotch egg, a fish pie that is not watery at the bottom, a samphire side, frickles and fried goats cheese. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and one visitor was glad to sit inside with a dog. The caveats are modest. One reviewer calls the food standard pub fare and doubts the pies are fresh because they looked uniform. Another found the fish and chips not quite equal to a pricier Cambridge brasserie. Several suggest booking ahead. One reviewer was told the owner has coeliac disease herself.

“Delicious fish and chips with three different batters to choose from and many options for sides. Fish was as fresh as it gets. Specifically caters to celiacs, was told that the owner has it herself.”

“I was very surprised by how good this food was. For the cheap price of around 15 pounds for a plate each dish fed at least two people. I got the haddock and chips with tartar sauce and it was remarkable. I think this is the most authentic British fish and chips I’ve ever had. Other than that, the waiter was very nice, and he brought our food very quickly; probably within 10 or 15 minutes. You could tell that the fries and fish were freshly made to order. I highly recommend anyone who hasn’t had good fish and chips before to try this out, it might surprise you.”

“Food is standard pub food, it’s not extraordinary but it’s okay. Unsure if the pies are fresh as they looked very uniform and standard. Good selection of sides and really good for gluten and alcohol free needs. Staff is super nice.”

“Fantastic fish and chips. Entirely gluten free and wonderfully cooked with a choice of flavoursome batter. Great beers and cider and the staff are really friendly too. Definitely recommend and will come again.”

“We had a long day and popped in for some light bites and this place ticked all the boxes, we enjoyed our non-alcoholic beer, are frickles, scotched egg and fried Goats cheese. Our Dog was happy, and we were able to be inside with her. Great staff genuinely friendly and happy all around. Nice Sunday visit.”
