About The Waterman
The Waterman is a pub and sports bar on Chesterton Road, positioned within a short walk of central Cambridge. The kitchen turns out pub classics such as fish pie and Sunday roasts, with the roasts still going out as late as seven o'clock on Sundays. Multiple screens cover big matches, including the World Cup and England fixtures, and big games tend to draw a crowd that books tables ahead. A beer garden sits out back with new planting and seating, and twin-bed rooms above the pub let visitors stay over after the last match. The door is walk-in.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come for the fish pie, with a few also praising the Sunday roast and the burger. Several describe a friendly crowd for football and World Cup matches, plus a garden seating area. The caveat comes from one overnight guest, who reports a dark, noisy front room with no air conditioning and a leaking shower. One diner notes tables needing cleaning.

“Visited the Waterman for Sunday lunch, and it was the perfect spot. Super quiet and chill, with a nice outdoor seating area. The service was friendly and the food was excellent - the roast was a huge plate of food and all good quality and delicious. A perfect locals experience.”

“My favourite pub in Cambridge. Always greeted with a smile and excellent service. The drink selection has a great variety and I always enjoy coming back to try the seasonal updates to their food menu. Currently loving the new fish pie. The place always has a great atmosphere for sports and as a local it’s both the ideal place to catch the game with my mates and enjoy a Sunday roast with the family. Notcied today their garden space just got some new plants and furniture which has made this place an even better place to soak up the sun with a pint. Highly recommend.”

“Overall, our stay at the Waterman was really disappointing. I booked 3 rooms for a girls weekend, 2 of the rooms cost the same and room number 1 was more expensive. Disappointingly we were allocated Room 5, which was the worse room of the three. It was smaller and extremely dark with very little natural light. The room was also very noisy as it was at the front of the pub, facing a busy road. There was no air conditioning, so we had to keep the windows open, which made it difficult to get any sleep. Room 5’s door lock was very temperamental and frustrating to use, often taking several attempts to lock the door when we went out. The shower also leaked from the top of the shower head, resulting in poor water pressure. The décor everywhere is very tired and in desperate need of refurbishment. On departure, no one asked how our stay had been or whether everything was satisfactory. Considering the price, we expected a much better experience. We were glad we were only staying for one night! Overall, a very disappointing stay that did not offer good value for money.”
