About Wyken Vineyards
Wyken Vineyards is a restaurant on Wyken Rd in Bury Saint Edmunds, set on an ancient estate with its own vineyard producing sparkling wines. The restaurant is called The Leaping Hare, and its menu includes trout and mackerel starters and a blood orange pavlova. A bakery on site serves coffee and pastries. Outside, formal gardens hold an orchard of apple and pear trees, and a sculpture exhibition is held among them. A farmer's market runs on the estate every week. Entry tickets are needed for the gardens, and vineyard tours must be booked in advance. The estate is open Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Customer Review Summary
Lunch at The Leaping Hare draws the most praise, with diners singling out the trout and mackerel starters and a blood orange pavlova as delicious, in a beautiful setting with relaxed service. One reviewer celebrated a birthday there, and all ten in the group had nothing but praise. Close behind is the coffee, with the latte called superb, the bakery's coffee and pastries described as worth the visit alone, and a breakfast called delicious. The gardens also earn mentions, from a sculpture exhibition to an orchard of apple and pear trees. The one critical account comes from a regular who says standards slipped after a change of restaurant manager. A surcharged steak ordered medium rare arrived well done and dry, its replacement was unseasoned, and a companion's meal went cold, though the dessert was wonderful. Two coffee visitors, by contrast, describe being pleased to see the restaurant manager back, and say the staff are friendly and welcoming.

“A nice place with good food and fabulous atmosphere! A short walk around the garden (need to buy entry tickets) was a pleasant experience, and the orchard with apple and pear trees was my favorite part of the walk.”

“I chose The Leaping Hare to celebrate a special birthday with 9 special friends, and boy was I pleased that I did! It was a thoroughly enjoyable, and glorious, lunch - delicious food, great and relaxed service, and a lovely location. Without exception all 10 of us had nothing but praise and appreciation!”

“Recently walked around the Sculpture exhibition in the beautiful gardens! Wowser- it was fabulous. Beautiful setting for gorgeous pieces of art. Hope it will be done again next year! Even without the sculptures the garden is well worth a visit! Finished my morning with a fabulous breakfast! Service was friendly and professional and the staff worked really hard ensuring customers were looked after - it was a very busy morning and they coped admirably!! My breakfast was delicious! Cannot recommend Wyken Vineyard enough.”

“A chance morning visit as we were nearby. I believe the vineyard tours need to be booked in advance, but we were hoping to see the gardens. We had been told these are well worth visiting but, unfortunately, they only open at 1.00. Not a wasted trip though as the coffee and pastries at the bakery alone are worth the visit.”

“We had a super lunch date at The Leaping Hare. Such a beautiful venue, warm and friendly team and the food is some of the best we've had for some time. The weather unfortunately put pay to a walk around the gardens, but a great excuse to go back again!”
