About The Three Tuns Public House

Ghostly history and medieval nights give The Three Tuns Public House its own character, a pub on Earsham St in Bungay that leans on that old-building story for the events it puts on. Real ale is served by the pint, and the bar works on a walk-in basis with no reservations taken. Live music runs through the week, with a Sunday slot and open mic evenings for anyone who wants to play. A pool table sits on site alongside a juke box and fruit machines. Dogs are welcome, so walkers can bring a companion in with them. The pub sits right in town and is easy to reach on foot, though there is no car park of its own, with pay and display parking a short distance away. It opens Monday to Sunday, closed Wednesdays.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the friendly atmosphere and the staff, with several singling out the managers for turning the pub around from what one calls a dump. Live music comes up repeatedly, including every Sunday and an open mic evening, alongside the pool table, juke box and fruit machines. One reviewer describes a great pint of real ale, and others like the old, eerie character of the building, with a few visiting for its spooky history and one recalling the owner's ghost stories on a personal tour. Opinions on the interior split. One reviewer compares it to a teenager's mouldy bedroom yet still calls it unforgettable, and another gives the lowest rating, describing run down, unfriendly surroundings where everyone stops to stare on entry. One reviewer also calls the owner unpleasant but says he is rarely seen. A visitor notes there is no pub car park, though pay and display is close by. One reviewer says the owner opened the door and gave a tour even though the pub was closed.

“Fantastic old place, unfortunately closed when we visited, but the owner opened the door to us and gave us a personal tour as well as recalling for us, many stories of his own personal ghostly encounters. Truly an amazing experience. Look forward to returning to this area at a later date and visiting whilst it us open”

“Amazing Staff and a great atmosphere. The managers are fantastic, friendly and have done a great job in turning around the pub, which used to be a dump. The owner is still a total tvvat but luckily you only see him occasionally so not really relevant. Only pub in Bungay with a juke box, fruit machines, pool table and a traditional welcoming friendly attitude to all. Highly recommended!!!!”
