About The Fleece Inn
The Fleece Inn is a pub in Bungay, laid out as several small open-plan rooms with private snugs, a courtyard garden and a log burner inside. The kitchen serves a roast with a choice of beef or pork belly, and a vegetarian roast comes with Yorkshire puddings. Lamb rump is also on the menu, and sticky toffee pudding is offered for dessert. The bar pours local beers on tap, and the selection changes. Dogs are welcome. A car park sits at the rear, and it can be hard to find for anyone who does not know the town.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what most reviewers come for, with the beef praised as beautiful with a little pink, alongside pork belly and a vegetarian roast with excellent Yorkshire puddings and a chunk of beetroot. Close behind are the lamb rump, called tender and perfectly cooked, and the cod and chips, described as huge. Puddings draw their own praise, especially the sticky toffee pudding, which one table practically licked clean, plus a custard tart and brownie. Reviewers describe friendly, quick service, a courtyard garden, a log burner, small rooms and private snugs, local beers on tap, no loud music, and a welcome for dogs. A few find it a little pricey but say the quality justified it. The one negative visit called the front of house disinterested, the prawn salad strange, and the chips with the fish and chips horrible, and said the waiter did nothing when told. Others mention the rear car park is hard to find for non-locals, while a family lunch ended with home made skin-on chips and a children's hulumi burger.

“Had lunch here today and it was a very mixed experience. The front of house staff/manager were not unfriendly but seemed very miserable and disinterested. The prawn salad starter was just…strange. A glass of not very well cleaned shell-on prawns sitting atop a few sad leaves, some ok bread and two slabs of hard butter. 2 out of 3 of the main courses were great (duck and the pork belly) but the chips with the fish & chips were just horrible. We mentioned it to the waiter but they did absolutely nothing about it.”

“We have been here twice in the last month. Both occasions have been a pleasant experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Although the menu isn't extensive it provides an interesting range of meals. The pub has been tastefully decorated and we appreciate there are several small open plan rooms as well as a ground floor restaurant. I believe there is also a separate dining room on the first floor. I particularly like the ever changing selection of local beers on tap in the bar. There is a car park at the rear which is difficult to find if you're not local. It has been a great find for our family.”

“We had a lovely lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon. We sat in the court yard garden, which was really pleasent. We had the lunch menu, choosing the fish ciabatta and chips and two meals off of the childrens menu, the hulumi burger and the beef burger. The food was absolutely delicious, the fish ciabatta was cooked perfectly. The fish was proper cod fillets and light crisps batter. The burger was cooked well, and the hulumi burger was really good according to my eldest. The chips were absolutely delicious! Skin on and definitely home made. The service was attentive and lots of smiles. The pub inside looked so beautiful and cosy. Would definitely come back when visiting Bungay again.”

“Delicious Sunday roast with all the trimmings served quickly and for very good value. We were walk-ins as we’d been visiting a nearby museum and arrived perhaps just after the lunch crowd, at about 2:45pm. The staff were very attentive and friendly, sat us straight away and served our food quickly. My husband and I had the roast beef and our young son had a burger from the children’s menu. Everything was delicious and cooked really well. Would highly recommend if you’re in the area!”

“Enjoyed a visit here yesterday. Looked a little expensive but it was worth what we paid. More than happy. I had a lovely lamb rump which I would highly recommend. Service was very good. Dog friendly too. Will visit again when back in the area.”
