About Per & Kor

Per & Kor is a restaurant on Gloucester Rd in Bristol, serving Korean and Persian dishes in the evenings, Tuesday to Saturday. The menu includes bibimbap, served with a separate sauce, kimchi pancake, and mandu guk beef dumpling soup, alongside meatballs in sauce and Korean beef tartare. Baklava with saffron and pistachio ice cream rounds out dessert, and drinks run to Korean ginger and citron honey tea and an aloe and honey tea. Reservations are recommended, as tables are often fully booked. Payment is by cash or bank transfer only, and this is disclosed only when the bill arrives rather than in advance.

Customer Review Summary

Bibimbap comes up again and again as the dish diners order, though its execution splits opinion: some found it bland or served without sauce, with one diner describing having to ask three times before getting enough to flavor the plain rice and vegetables. Close behind, the kimchi pancake, dumplings, and Korean beef tartare draw repeated praise, and several mention the ginger and citron honey tea and desserts like baklava with pistachio ice cream. Service is often called warm and personal, with staff coming over to chat and recommend dishes, and reviewers describe a couple running the place alongside a small team. The recurring trade-off is pace and payment: multiple diners report long waits, sometimes over an hour and in one case two hours for mains, attributed to what looked like a single chef and waiter on busy nights, and several were surprised to learn only cash or bank transfer is accepted, only finding out at the bill. One reviewer called the bank transfer setup to a personal account suspicious. Several suggest booking well in advance since it's frequently fully booked, and one diner brought a birthday cake in after a relaxed, unrushed meal.

“Had a lovely experience at Per & Kor. The food was tasty and well presented. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was pleasant. Great value for money and definitely a place I’d visit again. Highly recommended!”

“We had a wonderful birthday meal for our friend here. The food was delicious and made to order, and Mia our waitress was lovely and gave really great service. We shared kimchi pancake and veggie dumplings to start, had a main dish each, and shared a bottle of wine, and the price was really good. Also we didn’t feel rushed at all and were able to bring out a birthday cake afterwards too. Definitely recommend and will be returning, thank you!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“Very disappointed in this restaurant. Booked in advance and arrived on time. As far as we could see there was only one waiter and, at a guess, I would say only one person in the kitchen. We waited a while for our starters, but this didn’t prepare us for the wait for our main courses, which were not all delivered at the same time. It was over two hours from our arrival until we were served with our main courses. Other diners who came in after us left before we received our meal. The fish dishes had a good review from those who selected them but the meatball dish was average with two massive meatballs in a sauce. I asked for a box to take one home. I am not happy with paying cash as I feel that it is unprofessional and implies tax avoidance. As other reviewers have said this was not mentioned until the end. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be going back. Apparently, it used to be much better, so perhaps they have had a change of owner?”

“The reviews got me here as I know Bristol is full of good spots. Walk in and quickly sat. The place was not busy and I quickly ordered as although I wanted a halal restaurant this one is definitely not! So don't be fooled please! More than half an hour in and still no sign of even my appetiser and was told will still need to wait longer as only one chef is here and they are really busy (literally 10 other people there at that point and started with 12). I actually considered leaving but it was late and I was hungry so took the food to go in the end as I still had a bit of a distance to go. Not coming back sadly. The place is nice enough but the wait is too long and there are other spots around if you want good food in Bristol. Oh and they do only cash and bank transfers so be aware as I only got told when I wanted to pay! Never had this happen at a restaurant and the transfer is to a personal account as well which is very suspicious. The Shirazi salad is basically tomatoes and cucumber with some mint so totally underwhelming. I had the pad thai with prawns which was okay but not mind blowing. All in all an experience I will not repeat”

“The waiter was really welcoming and the atmosphere was lovely. Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to our expectations. Our bibimbap was a little bland even with the sauce and the main course took 1.5 hours for it to arrive. It also helps to know in advance that payment is by bank transfer or cash. That said, it looked like there may have been only one chef and one waiter working, so they were clearly trying their best.”
