About Jolly fryer

Jolly fryer is a fish and chips takeaway in Bridlington, serving from a chip shop at South Cliff Caravan Park. The kitchen fries in beef dripping and works from a limited menu of fish, chips, fish cake, and steak pie and gravy, prepared fresh to order. Customers order at the counter, where salt and vinegar are added. An attached pizza shop sells freshly made pizzas, so the same stop covers a second option for an evening meal. Jolly fryer is open daily, evenings only, and the pizza side runs late. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

The complaints are specific. One reviewer says the fish arrived cold and they returned it feeling queasy, and another found two of three fish pieces mostly batter with little fish. A third reports a fish cake that was more hard batter than filling, watery tasteless gravy and a steak pie full of fatty grizzle. The pizza drew a separate rebuke from one parent, who compared it to a budget supermarket pizza and called it disgusting. Another reviewer describes a sarcastic reply from the man cooking when they mentioned preferring vinegar before salt, and walked out without their food.

“Fish was served cold and wasn't sure if was cooked properly. I returned it complaining and walked off refusing a replacement feeling queasy from the experience. As far as your response goes.....Your staff had exagerated the situation!! I was outside yes but trying hard to persue with the meal but then thought "you know what I shouldn't have to eat this" the chips were still hot when I returned your meal but the fish was most deffinately cold!”

“I went into the chip shop at South Cliff Caravan Park and ordered fish and chips. I asked for salt and vinegar, and the young girl behind the counter started to add them. I casually mentioned that I usually prefer vinegar before salt—nothing rude, just a comment. Out of nowhere, the man cooking behind the counter laughed, then said, “What do you want, it’s free—we sell salt and vinegar, so buy some.” I was completely taken aback by the tone and attitude. His comment was sarcastic and unnecessary, and made me feel unwelcome and embarrassed for simply expressing a preference. It’s basic customer service to be polite and respectful, and this experience fell far below that. I told them I didn’t want anything else and walked out without my food. I won’t be returning—and I wouldn’t recommend it to others either. There are plenty of other places in Bridlington that know how to treat customers properly. Thanks for confirming that you were the one who spoke to me so rudely — owner or not, your attitude absolutely stinks. I don’t care about your title. What matters is how you treat people, and your sarcasm and dismissive comment in person — followed by this smug reply — just proves you’ve got zero respect for your customers. I wasn’t rude to you. I made a simple comment about how I like my food, and you chose to belittle me. You’ve lost a customer, I come a few times a year and your reply here only shows others exactly why. I run a café myself, and I’d be ashamed to treat my customers the way you treated me. You should take a long, hard look at how you speak to people.”
