About New Garden
New Garden is a Chinese restaurant in Bridgend at 40 Pandy Rd, where a pianist plays a grand piano in the dining room in the evenings, so a meal comes with live music. A koi pond and fish tanks form part of the decor, and the large restaurant seats guests in booths or open tables. The New Garden Special Menu is set up for sharing, and its dishes can be swapped to suit the table. The menu also lists Cantonese sizzling steak and smoked garlic chicken for diners who prefer to order individual plates. A Sunday buffet runs as well, and payment is accepted by cash or card. Prawn crackers come with a chilli dip.

Customer Review Summary
The recurring caveat is how busy it gets. Several describe waiters rushed off their feet, a long wait for the bill, a drinks order that was apparently missed for about 20 minutes, and a starter that arrived long after everyone else had finished. One reviewer called it not the place for a romantic meal and better for a get together with friends. Another said the decor could do with an update, noting damp in lots of corners. Several suggest booking ahead for larger parties, and one reviewer's early table meant the food came out at a good pace.

“8 of us went here for Mother's Day on my daughter's recommendation despite the fact it was a 35 minute drive to get there. So glad we did. Very friendly staff and the food was excellent..... and so much of it! It kept coming and coming! We opted for the New Garden Special Menu for £25pp which was very good value for money. It meant we were all able to try different meals. If there is anything on the special menu you're not keen on you can ask for it to be swapped for something of your choice. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will return! 🙂”

“Booked a table day before, their was a large queue on arriving this was for takeaways,so we squeezed through the queue, was shown to our seats plenty of leg room.. It was so busy, they even had a man playing the piano which was nice, the waitress placed menus and cutlery etc on our table and walked away.. We were ready to place our order but all staff were busy, our drink order was taken only 2 largers on pump were offered Stella and Carling. I had a small house red which was very nice, after about 20 mins of waiting the waiter who took our drinks order previous asked us to place our drinks order we explained that we allready had on being seated.. We placed our food order and asked for our starter to come out with mains... And a portion of prawn crackers they arrived with a chilli dip. We wasn’t waiting long when our food arrived. It was so fresh and plentiful and very tasty.Toilets were very clean but their is only one in the ladies, deco was beautiful. And you can pay cash/card.”

“Extremely busy place. Food was nice. Service was OK.. Waiters rushed off their feet. Definitely not the place for a romantic meal. A first date, or any type of wedding anniversary. Good for a get together with friends... There was a lot of food to go around. Will I be going again??? Not in a rush to go to be truthful. Just not really my type of place.”
