About 2nd Wife Restaurant

On Lilycroft Rd in Bradford, 2nd Wife Restaurant is a Pakistani restaurant built around Shinwari-style grilled meats and traditional curries. Starters include lamb seekh kebabs and meat samosa chaat, and the mixed grill is served as a platter for two. The curries run to the lamb Angara karahi and the charsi chicken karahi, and mains come with naan and roti, including garlic naan. The restaurant opens daily and keeps late-night hours. Payment is cash only, so guests should bring cash to the table. Weekends bring family-style visits, and a wait for a table is common when the dining room is busy.

Customer Review Summary

Angara lamb karahi is the dish diners name most, described as tasty and well cooked, with the boneless lamb on the angar also earning top marks. Close behind is the mixed grill platter, praised as delicious, while others single out the lamb seekh kebabs, chicken pakora, charsi chicken karahi, lamb shank and daal. Starters come out on a sizzler plate steaming hot, and the naan is called soft, though one reviewer found the garlic naan needed to be thicker. Portions get repeated credit as generous, and servers are described as friendly, polite and attentive. The complaints centre on pressure and payment. One family visiting on a busy anniversary discount night describes long gaps between courses, forgotten drinks and constant flagging down of staff. Another reviewer felt rushed, asked twice about mains while still eating starters. One diner found the chips and veg with the steak under-seasoned. Two reviewers were caught out by being asked to pay cash, and one wants a sign put up saying so.

“We were five persons.Had a really lovely experience here. The place was beautiful, clean, and very comfortable, with a great atmosphere. The staff were extremely professional, friendly, and welcoming. We ordered the mixed grill platter, and the grilled food was absolutely delicious. We also had the Angara lamb karahi, along with naan and roti — everything was fresh, full of flavour, and really well prepared. A special mention to Mukaddas, who looked after us throughout our visit. She was brilliant — very attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, the food, atmosphere, service, and staff were all excellent. Definitely a place I’d recommend and would happily visit again!”

“Good value for money for the amount of food you get compared to other restaurants. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, but did seem to rush us, asking us twice if we were ready for our main whilst we were still eating the starters. We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday and were seated straightaway. The food didn’t take too long to arrive and the atmosphere was nice.”

“We visited for their 1-year anniversary (50% off the entire menu) on 23 June 2026, so it was incredibly busy. The Wait: 60 minutes just to get a table, which was tough in nearly 30°C heat with young kids. However, the front of house gentleman was a true professional and stayed calm despite the crowds. Once seated, our server Maqdas was polite and lovely. The Service & Timing: We ordered at 8:23pm and the gaps between courses were frustrating: Starters: Arrived after 42 minutes (9:05pm). The Lamb Seekh Kebabs were delicious and full of flavor; the Meat Samosa Chaat was nice but nothing special. Kids' Meals: Arrived after 58 minutes (9:21pm). Good standard meals, but we had to chase up the drinks which were completely forgotten. Mains: Arrived after 1 hour and 23 minutes (9:46pm). The Lamb Angara Karahi was a bit pricey but tasty and well-cooked. The Family Garlic Naan was okay but needed to be thicker. The pilau rice was a perfect choice. I appreciate the anniversary discount brought huge crowds, but a 1.5 hour total wait for mains requiring constant flagging down of staff, is too long with young children. It was cash-only on the night. The on-site car park was full, but we found parking nearby. Great food and nice staff, but the kitchen struggled heavily under pressure.”

Muqadas, who provided amazing service throughout our visit. She was friendly, welcoming, and very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and helping us with our choices. Her positive attitude and excellent customer service made our experience even more enjoyable. We had a great time and will definitely be coming back and hopefully be served by her again. Thanks!”
