Quick info
About Oriental Delight
Oriental Delight is a Chinese restaurant on Commercial Rd. in Bournemouth, run as a family business in the style of an old-school Hong Kong diner. The kitchen makes its dim sum in house and serves it at lunch, with siu mai among the steamed plates. Clay pot rice with chicken feet and spare rib is the heartier option for a main. The egg custard bun has salted egg yolk in the filling. The dining room has a plain look, in keeping with the diner format. Vegetarian diners can order from a selection that includes tofu dishes.

Customer Review Summary
Dim sum is the main draw, with reviewers singling out the bouncy pork siu mai, the egg custard bun with its melted centre and chopped salted egg yolk, and soft, chewy Cheung fun. Close behind are the beef ho fun, called epic by one diner raised in Hong Kong, and the turnip cake, which a couple of reviewers call fresh and tasty, though another found it too soft. A chicken feet and spare rib clay pot rice also earns praise. Several describe the food as freshly made, and some suspect the dim sum and noodles are homemade. Vegetarians in one family say everyone was catered for, with tofu recommended. Service is called friendly and fast, though one reviewer notes a single waitress meant slow drinks. The clearest complaint comes from a diner who declared they could not eat anything spicy and was still served a vegetable black bean dish containing chillies. The server apologised, but the reviewer felt the kitchen should have been checked, and plans to ask again next time. Another found spring rolls pricey for two pieces.

“Went in there for lunch today after 20 some years, still so good! All food freshly cooked, good quality and very tasty. Especially the Dim sum. Will definitely come back again and highly recommend it.”

“Really tasty, freshly prepared dishes. The server was a lovely lady, very helpful and friendly. The only issue was that we stated I could not have anything spicy. The vegetable back bean dish had chillies in it! This was raised and the server was very apologetic, but as an allergy was declared it was their job to check with the chef. We will definitely eat here again but will ask them to make sure and check with the kitchen.”

“Very nice Chinese food with a lot of options. Two of our family were vegetarians and this restaurant catered everyone well. The Ho Fun, Tofu and Egg Custard Bun are highly recommended. The services were also excellent. We should come back. Many thanks!”
