About The Bar of Spice & Spirits Bolton

The Bar of Spice & Spirits Bolton is a bar and Indian restaurant at Unit 2-5 in Nelson Square, Bolton. The menu pairs Indian dishes with Indo-Chinese ones rather than sticking to curry, and the biryani comes in a lamb version and a vegetarian version. The drinks list covers cocktails, beer and mango juice. Staff ask each guest what level of spice they prefer, so the heat can be matched to the table. The dining room is open and renovated, with music kept at a low volume, and a private dining room is set aside for groups. DJ nights add entertainment alongside the food and drink. Reservations are required. Valet parking is available for guests who arrive by car.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the curries, naming the chicken shahi, a biryani with a mild vegetable sauce, and seekh kebabs, with portions described as massive and easily shared between two or three. Close behind are the lamb chops, noodles and salt and pepper chips, plus the mix of Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes. Reviewers also mention mango juice, cocktails and beer, and one says drinks are not ridiculously priced. Service gets steady credit for being friendly, polite and attentive without being overwhelming, and one waiter asked what spice level a table preferred. Some note the renovated room feels open and inviting, with music not too loud. The main complaint is a vegetarian biryani ordered for a pure vegetarian that arrived as lamb biryani, with the kitchen blaming a chef's mistake before replacing it. Another reviewer was put off by a loud, boisterous man who spilled a drink on them, though the manager apologised. A birthday cake produced at short notice for one diner's mother is a recurring kind of detail.

“Amazing food! Absolutely loved it! No doubt its the best Indian I have had in North West ! Big thanks to Gaurav for service and brilliant food recommendations”

“Ordered a vegetarian biryani for my wife, who is a pure vegetarian. They served her lamb biryani instead. When we pointed it out, they claimed the chef “made a mistake.” The restaurant wasn’t even busy, so this level of carelessness is unacceptable. For a pure vegetarian, receiving meat is not a minor error — it completely ruins the meal and shows a serious lack of attention. They replaced the order after we complained, but the trust is gone. We will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to anyone with dietary restrictions.”

“We explored this indian restaurant and found out a new gem. The atmosphere was really nice having music playing not too loud. The food was excellent having a variety of options ranging from indian and indo Chinese. The drinks were excellent with my favourite being mango juice. There is also cocktails and beer. Worth a visit for Food and a good Party.”

“Came here on Friday night and the food is excellent. The place is spotlessly clean and service was attentive but not in your face. Drinks are not ridiculously priced and I highly recommend you visit .”
