About Northern Monkey Bar
Northern Monkey Bar is a craft beer and pizza bar on The Pack Horse in central Bolton, serving its own locally brewed beers alongside guest and seasonal ales. Cask ales and taps sit next to a fridge of craft beers, and the staff let customers try a beer before they buy. The food menu is built around pizza and fries, with margherita and pepperoni on the pizza side and loaded fries topped with pulled pork. The bar hosts live acoustic acts and cabaret singing, plus a stand-up comedy night every two months that is advertised on screen. A pool table and darts are also on site. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come mainly for the beer, praising a wide range of ales on cask and tap, plus guest beers, locally brewed pours and independent seasonal and one-off craft brews. One notes a 3.8 pale ale is the weak option next to the five and six percent regulars, and another enjoyed a German pilsner. Bar staff are described as friendly and knowledgeable, and one reviewer says they offered a small taste before a pint was chosen. Close behind is the entertainment, with acoustic acts, cabaret singing, a stand up comedy night, a pool table and darts all mentioned. A few also like the beer garden overlooking a small park. The short pizza and fries menu earns praise too, especially loaded fries with pulled pork, which one reviewer compared to several smokehouses, and a delicious margherita. The one food complaint is a pepperoni pizza topped with full chopped chillis, so spicy that a reviewer and a girlfriend who likes spicy food could not manage more than a slice.

“Great spot in Bolton! They serve their own locally brewed beers, plus they’ve got a pool table and darts. We just stopped by for drinks, so I can't comment on the food, but the overall vibe and brews were top-notch.”

“Love this bar in central Bolton. Good options on tap and in the fridge. Can’t fault the service. We had pizza here last time we went - got the margherita and pepperoni. Margherita was delicious but the pepperoni was insanely spicy - full chopped chillis on there. Even my girlfriend who likes spicy things couldn’t eat more than a slice. So they lose a star there. Would come again!”

“Truly a great place. Me and my friend dropped in for a quick beer since it looked like a nice place. We stayed there until they closed for the day and we had a awsome pizza. The staff was excelent and we had a lot of fun taking to them and the other guest. It felt like beeing out with your best friends. Worth coming here all the way from Sweden Go Bolton”

“Good selection of guest beers, like these sort of pubs as beers are new to me, there's pool table & toilets are clean & the taps are different but great.”
